I'm a teen who loves to read, and I've seen a variety of books over my reading career. That said, this book is like no other I've read before. Decoding Mom looks at moms with the perspective that teens can work with them rather than against them by doing a few simple things. The book's small page count of 80 and easy-to-understand style of writing makes for easy, and in addition, humorous reading.

The cover of this book is as entertaining as the words it contains: on the cover is a simple "Mom Translator" that translates common mom phrases to teen language. Decoding Mom's text starts off with clever identifications of the various species of moms, and notes things such as plumage, behavior, and voice as if the mom was the subject of scientific observation. This book encourages that sort of observation by telling readers to investigate moms' reactions to all sorts of things. Pick up this book if you want your mom to stop, well, behaving like a mom all the time.

Their are many books out there with this kind of subject matter, but this one, as always with Zest books, approaches it in a different and altogether moire effective way. As is the trend with this innovative publishing house, the writer focuses more on practical ways to deal with certain, rather than emotional drivel about why your supposed to feel what when and which of the seven fetal positions to curl into in what situation. This is a great book which, if you follow its advice, at least will put you on the right path to a better parental relationship. Which is more than you can say for WAR & PEACE.

This book takes a look at the dynamic between kids and mothers. As a teenage girl myself, I feel this effectively addresses what goes on between moms and daughters. The graphics are cool and the text is accessible and informational without being patronizing. Whether it has to do with coping with an embarrassing mother or learning how to negotiate over curfews and clothing choices, or undstanding why Mom is acting the way she is, this book is spot on.

This book is absolutely true and contains realistic ways to talk to your mother! As a teenage girl, I don't always get along with my mom and sometimes I am unsure of how to confront her on certain issues. Talking to friends doesn't always work, because they don't know my mom as well as I do. This book gives descriptions of certain moods moms may be in and how to react and help her. I recommend this book to any teenage girl who wants to understand and get along with her mom!

This book is no doubt going to come in handy for any kid who reads it. Never again will you wonder if she'll let you get that toy when she simply replies, "We'll see.". You'll understand why she grounds you, why she wants you to make straight A's, and why, for Pete's sake, she insists you keep your room clean. This is a dictionary, thesaurus, and an encylopedia on mothers, their reasons and what makes them tick, much to the relief of children everywhere.

Decoding mom is a rare find: a book that honestly addresses the questions, mysteries and seemingly enormous gap the spans between mothers and their teenage kids. Decoding mom does not candy coat the sometimes difficult relationship and communication problems. It is funny, candid and wise, helping two outwardly different people (the old folks and us kids) find common ground.
