by Jane Yolen (Author), Martin Harry Greenberg (Author). A young adult (grades 5 and 6 reading level) collection of stories about werewolves. The weakest of the collection are the formulaic, unoriginal stories (teen wolf, a wolf camping trip).

by Jane Yolen (Author), Martin Harry Greenberg (Author). The strongest twist the werewolf folklore (some very aware of the lore) into new meaning (particularly two that deal with parallels to anti-Semitism and another that deals with the Children's Crusade) to create original tales. Not particularly deep, but a good collection for young readers.

Jane Yolen and Martin Greenberg have always had my respect for being able to pull together excellent short-story collections, and Werewolves is no exception. Although I wasn’t familiar with many of the authors in this collection, I found the writing to be consistently interesting and enjoyable–particularly notable since some of these stories are the first published works of the authors.

Martin H. Greenberg; Jane Yolen. From Library Journal. All in all, this solid collection of fantasy belongs in most libraries. A cautionary tale by Stephen R. Donaldson ("Reeve the Just"), a whimsical ad venture in miniature by Dennis L. McKiernan ("The Halfling House"), and a tribute to the art of storytelling by Charles de Lint ("The Conjure Man") il lustrate the variety of this collection of 19 stories written to celebrate. the centennial of Tolkien's birth. Lovecraft, this time to honor the much-imitated author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Sometimes it's hard to find a short-story anthology....about werewolves...that isn't over-the-top gruesome or where your favorite characters die in slow ugly deaths. This is a collection where most of the stories left me hopeful for mankind or at least triggered a pleasant glow. I didn't have to sleep with the light on or read another book to calm down before sleep.

I can't say I remember every story in this book but I do know I checked it out of my library for two whole school years more often than anyone eventually stole it from the library. Somewhere along the way I lost it and I'm here to buy it back. If this is the same book I'm thinking of one of the stories in it is how to become a werewolf by smearing baby fat on your body under a full moon. Yes I was in 4th grade and yes that was in one of the books in our library

I checked this book out of the school library so many times in the early 90's, that they finally just gave it to me.

It's a far stretch from today's twilight werewolves, but it was pretty impressive for its time. I'm definitely ordering a copy for my kids in hopes that they like it as much as I did.

Hey all you fantasy creature lovers - have I got a story for you. It's called WEREWOLVES. It is a whole bunch of stories about werewolves from
authors such as Jane Yolen & Ru Emerson.
There are some heart touching stories, scary stories and sad stories. The book has other fairy tale creatures such as fairies and sprites (and not sprite like the soda). Sprites are kind of like fairies although they're as big as humans. There are also stories about gypsies that are werewolves.
I do not recommend this book to little kids because it can sometimes be a little scary. I do recommend it to people who like fantasy creatures.

I used to check this book out of the library at least once every two months when I was younger; it has some of the best werewolf stories I've ever read in it. The selection is superb. Check it out and expect to be thoroughly engrossed.
