This book was used for a Visual Basic course that my wife took, so the most experience I had with it was in helping her resolve her programming problems. On the surface, this book looks like a decent introduction to Visual Basic, however it's when you dig deeper into the content that you realize this book is pretty superficial in handling the language. The examples are extremely contrived, and do little more than to show boring GUI changes (look, I made the text green, now it's red). I feel for any student that has had to use this book as a textbook, as it assumes a lot of a priori knowledge of computers and even Visual Basic itself. Overall this book does not treat Visual Basic as something that is fun to learn, but regards it more as a chore that must be muddled through.

This book is just plain terrible. It's clear and comprehensible up until page 44, and then it just starts throwing everything at you all at once, with absolute zero explanation of why anything is the way it is or anything else. It's as if the writer felt all he had to do to make his book easily readable is to have a touchy-feely first 43 pages or so, and then it would be okay to just start smashing the reader in the face with the sledgehammer of jargon and esoterica. I do NOT recommend this book for any real beginner looking to learn Visual Basic. Keep searching elsewhere.

I ended up getting this book on Amazon because efollet had it on backorder for weeks.

The Seller I got it from was great!

The book, eh, it depends on how your professor wants to teach the course. I'm taking a Intro to Visual Basic class - HOWEVER, the professor prefers to teach the course via using console application, not GUI like the book. So, to me, the book is "useless" when it comes to using examples in the book and modeling them to your own programs. If your professor teaches the course following GUI, then I think you'll appreciate the book because there are tons of examples and exercises to practice with.

Required book for one of my classes. Showed to be very useful. Nice to know Amazon is around to keep books affordable to students.

I bought this book for school and I was very happy with it. The book is great for beginners or for a refersher. The book was a little beaten up, but it did the job of getting me through the class.

Excellent book
The book is written for intermediate learners in programming. I would not recommend the book for beginners. The assignments are hard to comprehend and the integration between the exercises and the samples are so extensively different. Use this book only if required.
