Purchased this for my husband who is trying to learn how to use a computer. He didn't find too much info to help him in the book, but hopefully, he will find the answers to most of his questions as time goes by.

I have a few favorite topics to look up when thinking about laptops.

User Guide: Does the book describe how to find information (such as a user guide) from the manufacturer? No.

Main Battery: Does the book advise checking with the manufacturer on recalibrating or reconditioning the battery before replacing it? No.

Cleaning the screen: This book comes close. I'd feel better if it mentioned a microfiber cloth. The book does not do so.

Protecting the screen from keyboard rubbing: No.

Matte screens: Does the book mention matte screens and how to find them? No.

Netbooks: No mention of netbooks.

Macs: Apple Macbooks are given an honorable mention but this book concentrates on "IBM-compatible" notebooks.

Antivirus: This book only mentions subscription antivirus products. Many review web sites find free antivirus programs to be effective. Also, this book says you should scan your system daily because new viruses are constantly being released. This is not necessary. No mention of real-time protection or user behavior (phishing attacks).

Theft protection: No mention of the security slot, LoJack for Laptops, Prey Project, or similar.

Fn key: Not indexed.

Windows Update: It says Windows 7 turns on automatic updating. This is a choice made during initial install.

Administrative user account vs. standard user accounts: No mention of the desirability of using standard user accounts for everyday use.

I do not recommend this book. For most topics, I found missing or misleading information. Keeping things simple is good. Leaving out useful and pertinent information is not good.
