I told Aretha after she had thrown herself face down on the motel bed, after her lungs had stopped heaving. I don’t think it’s even dangerous. And look at it this way. If he makes some improvement,. maybe he’ll tell us what happened. Her voice was a retch into the bedcovers. He’ll tell them, and they’ll twist it into whatever they need. Don’t they have what they need already?. Her neck and shoulders quaked. I ached to touch her again but didn’t dare. If his case is as bad as you say, why bother with the procedure?.

After thoroughly enjoying Galligan's "The Nail Knot," I was very disappointed with this sequel. The way this book started, I wasn't sure if it was meant to be humorous or serious. Dog was always drunk, the Sheriff reminded me of some Don Knotts-type of character. The Deputy and virtually all of the other characters also seemed straight out of Mayberry RFD. I admit I'm probably too quick to stop reading a novel I don't enjoy, but I stopped after about 25% here. It is actually hard for me to believe the two books were written by the same author! I'm of a minority opinion here, but the book simply didn't work for me.

My third Dog Oglivie murder mystery and I love them the language is a little more rough in this one than the two previous, but if you overlook that, it is a well written story. Dog has finally formed some meaningfully friendship on his travels and that be ones a source of further pain to him. We finally learn all the details of the tragedy in his life that sent him on this 3 year long fishing odyssey. Once again Mr Galligan has come up with PLO twists that keep me off guard and surprised me. Really enjoyed it. This is one of those series that you hate to see end

Interesting story of how a specific fly fishing knot served as a central item in a mystery story from the perspective of a fly fishing bum. Good bedside reading

I truly enjoyed reading this novel, as I am an avid fly fisherman, and fan of Montana suspense. The storyline, coupled with the witty fly fishing metaphors, kept the novel flowing freely. The novel climaxed in the right places, held you in a state of unsuspense, then grabbed you again like a zombie jumping into a canoe on a placid lake, with another unexpected twist. Okay, maybe not that startlingly. The author is an excellent writer. The only problem I had with the novel is that there are no huckleberry bushes on the banks of the Yellowstone, and you cannot see the Bitterooot Mountains from Livingston. Good job, Mr. Galligan.

John Galligan presents another master mystery overlaid into a setting of fly fishing - just the kind of reading I look for. He understands fly fishing well and his details sparkle. I just wish he could turn them out as fast as I can read them!

I really enjoy a good murderer mystery, but even enjoy it more when it is about my favorite passtime, fishing. This author is really good at developing a believable story. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes fishing and thethe outdoors.
This was a great book, not what I expected at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. John Galligan is an author every fisherman should read.
