For, it seems that the good book is succeeding, at least in London's East End, where villains are finding redemption through the power of prayer. Religion and crime have for many years vied for territory in the East End. Since Victorian times, its streets have been fertile ground for gangs, hit men, thieves, and gambling dens, but also for evangelists and mission teams. With his shaven head and tattoos, Alan Mortlock looks an unlikely evangelist. Even more unlikely when you discover that he is Britain's top promoter of unlicensed boxing.

I thought it was about time they got on with it. t hiding, so I wasn’t hard to find. Johnny Price came into the Green Man one night. Alan is a boxing trainer and promoter, known as the "pirate promoter" because he champions the cause of unlicensed boxing, who has become an outspoken Christian evangelist with a passion for bringing Christ to the villians and hard men among whom he lives and works. He now heads "Godfellas," a group of tough Eastenders who travel the country presenting their boxing skills and sharing the Gospel.

This is an unusual book. It's about a London criminal and how he finds a way out of crime. Alan Mortlock descends into violence, drugs and drink. The author Greg Watts tells the story wit great skill and pace. I read the book in an evening. At the end of it, I felt really inspired. This is one of the best books I have read this year.
