The movement of water in response to these forces is called Ekman transport. The first observations of Ekman-type processes were made in the Arctic Ocean by Fridtjof Nansen, the famous Norwegian explorer-zoologist- oceanographer, and the only oceanographer to win a Nobel Prize (for his humanitarian efforts). 3 Chamberlin and Dickey, 2008 Exploring the World Ocean The Ekman Spiral Ekman’s reasoning went something like this: 1) as the wind blows across the surface of the ocean, it sets the water in motion, but because of the Coriolis effect, the water moves to the right of the wind; 2) as the top layer begins to move, it drags the layer.

Exploring the World Ocean presents oceanography as a systems science, aimed at understanding the world ocean as a single, interdependent system of interacting geological, physical, chemical and biological processes. Students are encouraged to take an active role in learning by exploring scientific ideas, data, and alternative ways of thinking as they view ocean science through the eyes of oceanographers.

I'm taking an oceanography class at the college and this is the required text book. Well, come to find out my Professor is one of the authors of this book, William Sean Chamberlin. I really enjoy the class and the text book also. It's easy to read, and has lots of colorful pictures. Hope you enjoy your Oceanography class!
Exellent
Saved a bunch of money on this book! I ordered a used one and was clearly shown on the book itself but it was still in good condition. The previous owner left a bunch of their notes and sticky notes in here which was an extra step for me to get rid of but everything else was fantastic. It's a lot thinner than I expected.

Everything went smoothly and I believe it shipped on time, I didn't keep track. Product is good with no notes or problems
I had to buy this book because the author who wrote it was my professor. Now we barely used the book. He provided a lot of lecture notes instead. I regret renting this book because now the Seller charged me the entire amount when it was already damaged. Worst decision ever.
