Actinium fluoride (AcF3) is an inorganic compound of actinium and fluorine. Actinium fluoride can be prepared in solution or by a solid-state reaction. In the first method, actinium hydroxide is treated with hydrofluoric acid and the product precipitates: In the solid-state reaction, actinium metal is treated with hydrogen fluoride gas at 700 °C in a platinum crucible.

Fluorine is a Group 17 element. It is a pale yellow, corrosive gas, which reacts with practically all organic and inorganic substances. Finely divided metals, glass, ceramics, carbon, and even water burn in fluorine with a bright flame. It is not uncommon to see fluorine spelled incorrectly as flourine. Until World War 2, there was no commercial production of elemental fluorine.

Actinium is a chemical element with symbol Ac and atomic number 8. Actinium gave the name to the actinide series, a group of 15 similar elements between actinium and lawrencium in the periodic table.

Actinium is a chemical element with symbol Ac and atomic number 89. It was discovered by Friedrich Oskar Giesel in 1902, who isolated the element the same year. It is also sometimes considered the first of the 7th-period transition metals, although lawrencium is less commonly given that position. Together with polonium, radium, and radon, actinium was one of the first non-primordial radioactive elements to be isolated.

This book discusses the general properties of fluorine and fluorides; hydrogen fluoride solvent system; ionization in halogen fluorides; fluorides of main group elements; and chemical reactivity of higher fluorides of d- and f-transition elements. The production of elemental fluorine; acidity of hydrogen fluoride; preparative reactions in halogen fluorides; specificity of fluorination in rare gas reactivity; and bonding and structure in higher transition metal are also elaborated in this text.

Presents the properties, uses, discovery, technology, geology, and biology of the elements actinium to fluorine.
