This book is a required text for my teacher certification course. I have tried so hard to read it, but it's almost impossible to understand. The text is so peppered with citations of studies and authors' works it's nearly unreadable. The academic language the authors use is needlessly complex. It's pompous and self-important, it's like they wrote the book trying to sound smart. I know there is good stuff in this book- sound theory, good research, important ideas and real-life experience, but it's lost in the talk about meta analysis of data and ecological relationships. It's a book of sour notes with one that stood out in the very final chapter: to be a teacher you need to be in good physical shape. Can't be a teacher and NOT go to the gym everyday... What? I thought this was about learner centered instruction and not tips about losing weight and staying in shape? Would not recommend this to anyone who doesn't want an immediate headache. Very disappointed.

The seller was excellent but the product was too complicated to understand what I needed to use in the classroom. It is an excellent source of facts, but little information on teaching skills. I did not get what I wanted from the book, which is learn how to do learner-centered lessons.

This book has been a huge asset in my teaching. It is easy to read and stirs me up to teach better and advocate for my students. I highly recommend it. In a recent survey the instructor conducted comparing his textbooks, the students chose this one over others as the most useful.
