Betty’s first book, Sister Peters in Amsterdam, was published in 1969, and she eventually completed 134 books. Her novels offer a reassuring warmth that was very much a part of her own personality. She was a wonderful writer, and she will be greatly missed. Her spirit and genuine talent will live on in all her stories.

Betty Neels’ 1984 Heidelberg Wedding was my pick because Neels is certainly one of the classics

Betty Neels’ 1984 Heidelberg Wedding was my pick because Neels is certainly one of the classics. Her books from Harlequin stand out not only because she took certain plot points and made them her own, but also because she has an idiosyncratic voice. I find her writing hit or miss, but this particular story was a very fun read and I’d probably give it a solid B. Anyone familiar with Neels will guess that this book is a medical romance with some kind of tie-in to the Netherlands – and you’d be half right

Book Description: LOVE AND MARRIAGE - Getting engaged had seemed like a good idea. Now Sister Eugenia Smith wasn't so sure. She was fond of Humphrey, but did she love him? When surgeon Gerard Grenfell offered her the chance to work in Europe, she went willingly. Perhaps a break would help her think thing through, but Eugenia discovered that she was in love - with Gerard. As he was engaged to the glamorous Miriam, it was pretty hopeless. Fortunately, wedding plans can be changed.

Gerard Grenfell, Senior Consultant & Eminent Surgeon and Eugenia Smith, Women Surgical Ward Sister made a handsome couple; they belonged together; everyone could see it; surely, they should - - - or so thought Women Surgical Staff Nurse Hattie. Eugenia knew that Gerard needed: a woman who would never feel threatened by his devotion to his work and a woman who would love him to distraction. She came to realize that she was that woman. Unfortunately he was engaged to the beautiful Miriam and Eugenia would be forced to marry the frugal and demanding Humphrey.

Gerard & Eugenia appear in "Magic in Venice"; Gerard & Charles Trescomb are friends.

I love all the old fashioned sweet romances by Betty Neels. I read them all many years ago and am now reading them for the 2nd and even 3rd times on my Kindle. She wrote them all on a formula. Usually a romance between a Dutch doctor or professor and an English young lady. There is always some type of conflict that has to be settled before the happily ever after. No violence and no sexual content.

Very nice story, but seemed to jump forward haphazardly and skip over things in an uneven manner. I kept checking to make sure I hadn't turned more than one page and missed something, but I hadn't.

So romantic. Each engaged to the "wrong" person, the hero and heroine finally found their way to each other. You will enjoy this romantic tale.

The story was too short. We're have all the good wholesome writer gone ? This story was beautifully written to act agate your imagination . The setting in Heidelberg was fitting . Tho my imagination had no problems as I have eaten in the restaurant and toured the castle and Danced in the main Ballroom . Yet again theirs was a smile on my face as it ended.
Nightscar
Easy, simple read.
