The book Re: A Marriage to Remember - Carole Mortimer brings us an epic angst fest drama of whacktasticness to kick off the HPlandia year of 1998. There is a lot of positive vibes for this book, and it is very well done, CM has a great style and the h's pain is palpable over the majority of the story

Carole Mortimer A Marriage To Remember. The first you may be able to do,’ he murmured softly, before turning back to the waiting audience. The second you may not have any choice about,’ he added grimly. Maggi could easily understand his anger and disbelief; she was sure a lot of other people who had been in that hall tonight were still stunned at having seen Adam Carmichael. As she was! It all seemed like a dream now that they were back at their hotel, Maggi having escaped from the stage at the end of ‘their song’, glancing back only once, to see that Adam wasn’t having the same success in leaving, the audience calling for more, refusing to let him go.

It was a good quick read.

What happens when an accident destroys a marriage? Well in this case they separate for three years. Both in music industry. She had to learn to walk and heal. He had to complete contracts they had made with another female. Conflicts? Yea, the other woman thou not talked about alot was the main problem. I did enjoy the HEA part of the HP story. Have read many stories by C. Mortimer and have never been dissapointed.

This was an interesting romance with a very different setting to what we are used to in more recent Mills & Boon romances. The hero and heroine are both musicians and singers until an accident three years ago forced them to abandon their duo. Unfortunately things happened to put strain on their marriage and when Maggie told him to leave, Adam did so.

Now it's three years later and Maggie is finally recovered enough to resume her singing career as a soloist with the help of Adam's cousin as her manager. Of course Adam turns up and the pressure is on for them to reunite both as singers and their marriage as Adam refused a divorce.

I really enjoyed this reunion romance as we learn about what happened to pull them apart when they were so much in love. A satisfying ending.

From the back cover:

Divorce vs. Desire
Three years ago Adam Carmichael had walked out on Maggi when she needed him most. Now he was back, to pick up their marriage where he'd left off--or so he thought! Maggi's first reaction was to finalize their divorce, but Adam refused point-blank. Maggi became furious--not with Adam but with herself, because, to her dismay, part of her was relieved!

Torn between divorce and desire, Maggi knew she should follow her head, not her heart. But Adam wasn't going to let her go without a fight.

And my review:

I'd slowly started weaning myself off of Harlequins when I picked this book up from a thrift store for 10 cents. Harlequin has authors that range from those that shouldn't even be published to ones that are excellent. Carole Mortimer is one of the best!

I normally don't like to read books from the "Presents" line, as I disagree with a lot of things in the lifestyles of those portrayed. For example, I don't like reading about spouses who supposedly love each keeping seperate bedrooms just because they're rich, sending their kids to boarding school rather than raising them themselves, or having cooks and housekeepers when they're perfectly capable of keeping their own homes. Whatever happened to taking care of your own family?

But this book was different - a step away from all that, and I'm really glad I took a chance on it. The hero and heroine both seemed to have their heads on straight, and lived their own lives instead of hiring people to do it for them, so to speak. The reasons that they split up were real, valid reasons that seemed insurmountable (but of course weren't), not silly arguments that carried on forever. Unlike many couples in the "Presents" line, where they act like children giving each other the silent treatment, I felt that this couple actually tried to communicate.

I nearly cried at the black moment of this book, and again when the happy ending was finally reached. I have very few Harlequin keepers, but this one went on the keeper shelf, and it is not coming off of it! Best ten cents I ever spent at a thrift shop!

I'm looking for more books by this author.
