Especially not the drop-dead gorgeous Dr. Marc Suarez who broke her heart seven years ago. When a tragic accident transforms the carefree playboy into a dedicated but novice father to his nephew, Holly gives in to her maternal instincts and turns her structured life upside down for the orphaned preemie. 3 out of 5 stars. Old lovers meet again seven years later, one still feels betrayed but when an orphaned baby boy comes into their lives, he unintentionally brings them back together. Will helping one another out be enough to start up their relationship again?

What can I say about this novel? It was a dramatically captivating read about two lovers muddling their way through a tremulous relationship while hoping for more to happen between them. I was riveted with this not-so-realistic sounding fairytale-style doctor romance. The plot was intriguing and though I didn't like either Holly or Marc at times I was captivated at how their romance would turn out.

I recommend this novel to those looking for a doctor/newborn baby romance!

I have enjoyed a couple of books from this author and this book was no exception! Book kept you interested and some of the situations described in the book made you feel like you were watching a scene on ER or Grey's Anatomy. I loved the characters in this book. They were both different, yet the attraction they felt for one another was still there despite time and their circumstances.

Story is about Holly who is a doctor about to become a neonatal specialist and Marc who is a very good doctor specializing in anesthesiology. Marc and Holly met 7 years ago and had a brief but steamy relationship. After 7 dates, he picks up and moves to his home in Puerto Rico to help out his family. Holly has since resented him for the way the relationship died and for his renown latin lover ways. Marc has lived his life to the best he could, always fulfilling his obligations to his career and his family. Holly has always been a special woman and now that they were back to working together, he wanted to become close to her again. She kept avoiding him like the plague so that made it a bit hard.

A tragedy involving Marc and one of Holly's patient makes them closer and they soon find themselves interacting with each other again. This story has dramatic, heart tugging, heart warming, romantic and steamy moments. Overall, it was a great little book! The spanish references were cute and made Marc even more attractive! Yum papi chulo! :)

"Babies in the Bargain" Displays Three Areas of Excellence:

1. Very Strong Emotional writing.
2. All pervasive centrality of the romantic relationship.
3. A high level of medical expertise essential to the plot.

In short "Babies in the Bargain" has everything I like to see in a medical romance but often don't see. The author, Mona Risk, has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and a daughter who is a Neonatologist. The medical elements are very realistic and they are also essential to the plot. I don't like it when medical terminology is used simply because the story is a medical romance.

I also appreciate that the romantic relationship between the hero doctor and heroine doctor is as pervasive as I've ever seen in a romance. When the hero and heroine are not interacting, they are still thinking about each other and the relationship. If you like the romantic part of a romance, then "Babies in the Bargain" can't be beat.

"Babies in the Bargain" could serve as an object lesson on how to `show' and not `tell' a story. You know exactly what the characters are feeling at all times and for the most part you feel it along with them. It's a great read.

The heroine is a doctor who is working to get board certified in neonatology. The hero is a respected anesthesiologist who had an affair with the heroine seven years earlier. When a family emergency took the hero away to Puerto Rico he seemed to have abandoned her. She has always loved him and now he has come back into her life by moving back to town. His brother and sister-in-law are soon killed leaving a premature baby that the hero must raise. Of course he is in need of a mother and thinks the heroine is the perfect candidate.

Excellent Story.

I'm not sure why I liked this because if I had thought about the cover, it would have put me off! The two people depicted are not old enough to be in their 30s and the highly qualified doctors in the story. Portraying the couples on the cover as too young is a common error in romance novels and one which the publishers and perhaps authors (though I know they don't get much say) should re-think.

The notion of Holly Collier having the newborn in her room at the hospital and all the nurses looking after it, is a bit unbelievable as was the hero not having other friends who could look after it. However, I am well aware that the author needed to put the couple into each other's orbit. In spite of this, I did quite like this story. The heroine and hero are shown to be nice people, in spite of the traditional carry-on over him not seeing her for seven years (which is a bit of a stretch) and her not having dated for that time. I think the author could have given her a few casual dates/flings, as it would be normal behaviour for a healthy young woman, but it's not a big issue.

There is not so much fussing around and angst as in most romance stories which pleased me, and as I don't know anything about the visas required for working in America, that apparent error didn't faze me.

Not a bad effort.
