I'm damn good at what I do. I was better as a soldier. That comes with a price. She remembered the article that mentioned his time in Special Ops. She didn't want to ask anymore because she didn't want to know what he'd done. There were hints about covert assignments.

So I bought this book because I was out of books to read and I have enjoyed Mallerys recent books so I looked up some of her older ones. Stayed up late to read it all. Heroine Ashley is strong, admirable, a great mom with a tough side and a good sense of humor ("I've had natural childbirth. I understand suffering"). Hero Jeff is strong in the physical sense and in his business dealings as the owner of a private security company. Yet he's so lost, so lonely, has cut himself from all deep human emotions because feeling scares him. He's had a violent past as a soldier and is afraid to feel the pain of all that killing. Ashley's 4 year old daughter Maggie adds another dimension of love, tenderness, and family to this great book.

This is not your usual short novel. No, it was not your typical lust at first sight, add conflict here, resolve.

The attraction was not as evident at first, the conflict was always there. Mrs. Mallery does a great job of evolving their relationship. In the end it's truly satisfying! Ahhhhh.....

I loved how this book teaches us that loving someone is not just about saying the words, it's about action. That to be loved unconditionally sometimes you have to be vulnerable enough to love unconditionally.

I was pleasantly surprised and enraptured, entertained. Recommend it wholeheartedly!!!

This book was good, but the ending was a bit tiresome, left a lot to be desired. But because it was so low priced, I'm not sorry I bought it!
Jeffrey Ritter had terrible memories of his time as a soldier, and is now part owner of a business which dealt in high intrigue. After finding his cleaning lady really sick in his office, Jeff offered her and her small daughter Maggie a place to stay. This was a job which she desperately needed. Although Jeff tries to be a hard-hearted man he really has all the feelings of a caring guy, but doesn't dare give way to them. When love comes upon the scene, he doesn't recognize it - but Ashley does, and it makes life as Jeff has known it become dangerous.

Good Read all around. Thought the PTSD the hero experienced was spot on.The struggles of this single mom was a little over the top. But hey it's romance right? This book is number one of two. ******SPOILER ALERT****.
In book one" Shelter In A Soldier's Arms" heroine gives birth to a little boy named David Jeffrey at the end of the book. In book Two " A Little Bit Pregnant" said baby became Michael. This was a big mistake for her editor. I had to recheck while reading the second book just cause i "thought" it was wrong. Sure enough it was. It kind of bothered me thru the rest of the story. This book was purchased in 2013 by me. Published in 2001, and 2003 respectively. What happened to updates?

A two of people brought together. One who was used to standing on her own, one who has to protect and help. One who learn to let the light in and to feel again. One who needs to learn to trust and let another help. Two people who learn to except each other and to love. Plus a little girl who helps open their hearts and see the actions mean more than words. I loved this story can't wait for the next story about Zane.

Great story with lots of surprises and action galore. Love was apparent in their lives and just got buried but came evident.

I have read Susan Mallery before and have loved her Fool's Gold Series and Shelter in a Soldier's Arms was just as great. I had never read Christine Rimmer before but after reading Donovan's Child I will be reading more of her books.

BOOKS than any other

I enjoyed reading this book and looking forward to reading more of this author. She has a great ability to tell a good story.
Another great love story! I read the story about Zane first and now Jeff, but it really doesn't matter because you can pick up the story line in both stories. I know that only comes from great writing, way to go Susan!!
