Bearing the Devil's Mark is a well crafted series of essays by Matt G. It is the voice of reality, frank and forthright from the much speculated about Church of Satan. This is no dusty grimoire of chants and candles. The subsequent chapters are not only entertaining, but outline many Satanic concepts and ideals while dispelling myths and misconceptions long held and erroneously promulgated by the mass media and the public in general.

Bearing The Devil's Mark is a bold and no-nonsense treatise on the subject of Satanism - not from the perverse pen of bitter and jealous Christians or even their pagan counterparts, but straight from the Satanic perspective itself! Through both personal observation and established fact, Bearing The Devil's Mark taps into the vein of the world's most feared religion and presents its undiluted insight on the human condition.

A collected work, this was a difficult read in some parts due to the author's very ham-fisted writing style. The author mentions a number of other media projects he has created over the years and I suspect he's better at those than writing.

I enjoyed the interview transcripts the most. I think there is where some of Mr. Paradise's magical prowess starts to reveal it's true power as those transcripts read very much like he was sitting there, answering (my) questions. Some of those answers better explained what he believes than his essays.

Mr. Paradise mentioned the creation of a collection of Satanic Quotes (as he could never find one he liked and, as he says in this book, if you cannot find what you want CREATE IT for yourself). Sly marketing there, Mr. Paradise (lol)

An essential tome for any infernal library, in spite of my opinions on the writing style.

Delivering with equal parts humor and indignation, Rev. Paradise offers decades of experience and knowledge in one package.

As an active CoS member I found this collection to be thought provoking and immensely enjoyable.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for undefiled wisdom.

I do not know Magister Paradise personally but his work is at the premier level. I have nothing further to add and I am indeed a member of CoS.

Such a good read. Every CoS member should own this book, if for no other reason than to put coin in Magister Paradise's pockets. Kidding, it's an exceptional read, funny, insightful and definitely a clear window into Satanic philosophy.

When it comes to writing, Matt G. Paradise is probably best known for "Not Like Most", a Satanism publication from Purging Talon Publishing. Issues were originally released biannually, and later the format was switched to a bigger-sized annual release. This book collects his own best essays from past issues, including a few other writings such as a very personal preface, new essays, a compiled/composite interview, and even a hilarious "From the Mail Bag" appendix of some of the strange mail Purging Talon Publishing has received over the years.

While there have been countless zines published over the years in the name of Satanism, "Not Like Most" has always been beautifully, well...not like most! One of the keys to this lies in its full title, "Not Like Most: A Publication of Satanism IN ACTION." When I first read an issue of "Not Like Most", I realized right away that this wasn't the same old predictable accumulation of angry Christian-bashing articles, interspersed with whatever tacky D&D artwork was submitted to the publisher. No, this was a great publication of well-selected articles from well-minded Satanists who could really write, and more importantly got into the real nitty-gritty about HOW Satanism, the philosophy codified by Anton LaVey and reflected in "The Satanic Bible", manifested itself in real life. Paradise's own personal essays here still reflect that theme, whether it's about history, film, sociology, misanthropy, or dozens of other topics that his essays cover.

Another thing that's always made Purging Talon a great company is its attention to aesthetics and detail. Trust me when I say that this is NOT some book of bad inkjet printing, stapled together haphazardly in somebody's basement. This book is a professional publishing work in every sense of the word: the layout, the page numbering, the margins, the font, etc. I know this might sound unimportant, but trust me, after seeing so many "underground publishers" getting it wrong (including some who have left it in the hands of printers like Lulu dot com), it's refreshing to see this done RIGHT.

It's great to have these wonderful essays available again, and in one complete volume. Every Satanist should have this one on their bookshelf.
Bearing the Devil's Mark, by Magister Matt G. Paradise, is one of the most insightful dissections of Satanism that I've ever read. This compilation of essays is not only entertaining, but refreshingly honest as well.

When people ask me what Satanism is all about, I now have another book to add to the list for them to read and educate themselves with. Even though many pseudo Satanists will balk, there is a lot of eye-opening information on what a Satanist is ~not.~ All too often we find ignoramuses misrepresenting Satanism; This book clears the muddy water with brutal facts.

It's really nice to see someone with such great experience and acumen sharing their knowledgeable writings with us. Oftentimes, one has to really hunt around to find great Satanic writings, but Magister Paradise's are now conveniently bundled in this book. It is a treasured addition to my library and I know it will be enjoyed for decades to come.
