Robert Blumetti has dedicated more than twenty years to the study and exploration of European pagan religionsĀ . I've read many books, atleast 700, and I must say that this 'Book of Balder Rising' is the most pathetic example of literacy I've ever witnessed.

To help us, Blumetti has completed a labor of love - THE BOOK OF BALDER RISING, and now his second book, VRILOLOGY. Twenty years ago he swore to the Gods and Goddesses that he would write this book for them. Its purpose is to help the Children of the Gods-the Asatru-find the path back to them. The author proposes the idea that Ragnarok has come and gone and that the human specie is now undergoing the degenerative burning down in the proverbial flames of Surt. But that those who're faithful to the European gods can and will usher in the New Age of "Gimle" by calling Balder back from the realm of the dead and thus give rebirth to the gods who sleep the sleep of death in the European DNA. This is an interpretation of Nordic eschatology that a simple perusal of the source-literature (for instance, the Prose and Poetic Eddas of Snorre Sturlason) would, I believe, quite readily defy. But to each their own whims. I've read many books, atleast 700, and I must say that this 'Book of Balder Rising' is the most pathetic example of literacy I've ever witnessed. There are typographical errors on near every page. Makes for a very frustrating reading experience, especially if one intends to read all 400 pages. Besides the foregoing, the author does do well enough in presenting much source-material about atleast 18 gods and other major wights, including Cosmology, from Norse Myth. He also attempts at explaining the probable belief of the Nordic ancestors that the gods do somehow dwell within the continuity of bloodlines. Furthermore, Robert Blumetti promotes a Pantheistic, not Polytheistic, view of the gods, denies reincarnation of the human soul (page 15), and takes some liberty at reworking the 'Runatalls thattr Odhins' (from Havamal in the Poetic Edda) by incorporating the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark in place of the original 16 or 18 Spells therein and actually mentioned (pgs. 66-67 of The Book of Balder Rising). All this being said, the author does incorporate accurately much from the source mythology of Nordic lore as it has been handed down in literary works such as Snorre Sturlason's Eddas and Heimskringla. He does give credit, within the text itself, to other authors whose ideas he evokes. As much as I may not agree with the author's overall premise, tis not wise to begrudge anyone their unique opinion. Thus I give Blumetti an extra star for his zeal. By the way, I do believe the Old Norse language already had a word for "Vril"... "Ginn", as in Ginn-Regin and Ginn-ungagap, etc. So why, if so, give it another name...and according to Blumetti, a Tibetan name at that.

I thought the book came to me in great condition and the book is just as good as I thought it would be, even better actually, a great read!

Closer to a book on Scientology than Heathenry. Full of racist ideology.

If anyone has a real interest in the old religion of the Nordic/Germanic people, there are many good books available. This isn't one of them. The lore has been distorted to suit this author's particular interpretation, and he is at odds with almost all other sources, both academic as well as those from an "Asatru" point of view. In almost every case, he has gotten it wrong. Blumetti suffers from a severe case of excremental overload, cognitive dissonance and delusional fantasies. Let the buyer beware!

After editing The Book of Baulder Rising. I found there are many similarities between the two religions. Baulder rising gave me an indepth and clearer understanding of the relationship of
mankind and nature. The forces of good and evil. I found the book to be very metaphorical. I especially loved reading about
the Gods Thor and Idun. I enjoyed reading Baulder Rising and I
would highly recommend it to anyone who like to gain a better
understand of the first reconized religion by man and understand the similarities between Christ and Bauler.

Given that I am someone who follows the gods that the person describes in their text, I found it incredibly disappointing that the author has elected to use this subject matter to promote spiritual segregation along racial lines. While the descriptions of the dieties may be good, the implication that someone not of European ancestory shouldn't be celebrating the gods herein rings false for me. There are many other texts (Such as Northern Mysteries by Aswynn) that don't contain such overtones.
