A boarded-up church, a dressmaker's shop, a "borrowed" apartment, a Vienna pawnshop, a locked train compartment are these places of safety before making it to the Danzig Passage or way stations to betrayal and destruction?

The net of Hitler's Third Reich begins to close around the Jews in prewar Europe, and millions are trapped in his sinister web. Kristal Nacht, the Night of Broken Glass, shatters the last illusions for thousands who hoped to escape the Nazi terror.

As the synagogues of Berlin burn and Jewish homes are plundered, two families face the grim reality of life in the New Germany. Anna Lindheim's sister Helen and her pastor husband Karl Ibsen are arrested for helping the Jews. The Ibsen children, Lori and Jamie, must find a way to escape their Nazi pursuers and get past the iron gates that keep them imprisoned in the Reich.

Young Peter Wallich, with his mother, sister and baby brother, faces the same dilemma. How can he, a Jew, get them out of Vienna to safety? How can they reach Danzig, the one place that offers hope, the promise of freedom?

And then there is Lucy, in such desperate straits herself. How can she possibly help these children?

What Can One Person Do?

As always with any Thoene books this is a nail biting read!!! I have read this series once and I am reading it through again....It takes a person back to the times of the Holocaust; how the Jewish people survived, how the Gentiles helped and how evil men can be toward someone who they don't even know. The Jewish people are created by Almighty God and without them we would not have a Savior who was Jewish too. They did not kill Him but all of us did because of our sin! Kept me in suspense all the way through again!!!! Thank you for this book and look forward to many more.

I learned more from all of Bodie Thoene's Zion Covenant Series about the what happened during that period of time (Hitler's takeover of European Countries, and the stories of countless families) than I did when I was in school. This author has built in peoples stories of their lives and families and friends into the period of time as Hitler drove through each European Country, including emotion, fear, terror, compassion, and faith. She has built peoples lives into and around actual events, creating a real picture to the reader. I have encouraged many people to read this series, so that they could also learn.

I have been reading through this series (Zion Convenant) and I can't put these books down! They are not only
suspenseful, inspiring, but they are historical correct. Ihave checked some of the topics against history and the
topics I checked are historically accurate..... sometimes it is hard to read what humans will do to humans, but maybe
this is what we all need to read about to NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN........

You will NEVER be disappointed with Thoene books! History comes to life in all of their well-researched, well-written, fast-moving books!

I have been rereading the books in the Zion Covenant series for the first time in several years, and this book definitely ranks as one of my favorite books in the series! What I like best about this book is it intertwines the themes of good vs. evil and miracles. It was very easy to stay engaged in the book, from the beginning to the end.

I read this series way back in the early 90's. I loved the books and have read everything written by the Thoene family since that time. Reading these books now in light of what is happening in our world has gotten my attention in a big way. And most of the churches were silent. God have mercy on us.

I read all of the Bodie and Brock Thoene books and this one was the most riveting.
This series of books is quite riveting. However, there are so many people and sub plots in the series, it is difficult to keep them all straight.
