This course makes the process nearly painless; it is written in a friendly and supportive tone, and the structure offers you plenty of opportunities for self-practice.

Swahili (Teach Yourself). The book with the dictionary were invaluable; I didn't use the tape much but no doubt it would be helpful to fulfill what to me are the most difficult parts of learning Swahili: listening and speaking (and being understood). Now I am using Peter Wilson's Simplified Swahili quite happily - I gained a good foundation of understanding how to create sentences from Teach Yourself and Wilson's Simplified is giving more detail.
