Cassie Mayer has written several series of children's books, including Our Global Community, First Biographies and Weather Watchers. Mark Beech developed a passion for drawing at a very young age, inspired by the works of Tolkien and . After he travelled the world as a fabric designer, he returned to his roots as an illustrator of children's books.

"Our Global Community" uses the familiar Acorn format of a simple text structure combined with stunning photography to introduce Key Stage 1 readers to familiar aspects of life in communities across the world. Each book looks at a different ritual of everyday life, such as going to school and shopping for food, in order to expose readers to the lives of people in other cultures.
