Do yourself a favor and get this book..It will change your life.Everyone who is on a path to self-betterment will find at least one thing to put into use.
Green Berets(and other elite military units)get things done under often impossible circumstances.Often with little equipment and personnel.Mr.Mayer's book gives you great insight in how to harness and apply special forces traits to your everyday life.Coming from a dysfunctional home, I had many of the mental roadblocks outlined in this book.I use several of techniques found in this book on a daily basis.I cannot recommend this book enough.

I had previously purchased Warrior Writer (now Write it Forward) and loved that book so much. It was an inspiration for a modestly successful Indie writer. He was ahead of the curve and e-authors (like me) needed somewhere to go....so it was a perfect book. Mr. Mayer in that book hits the key issues with being an Indie writer "writing raw" as I call it.

When I got this book I didn't know what to expect. Wow. The stories and how he relates Special Forces Soldier Stories (some of his own) to every day life....it has been an inspiration in my personal life. But it is not really a book about war. It is about people willing to go beyond what they believe...so don't be scared girls...it is more like a novel.

It is fascinating in that it is an analytical view of mistakes made, success and how to apply those lessons of SF soldiers, war, the mind and the heart to every day living and to writing. I read it on BART nearly every day, I have to put it down after a few pages because I am either too emotional...feel things too much...or there is so much to absorb in the few pages...which never happens to me....

It has made me believe, we don't all have to be Special Forces soldiers to change the world, we just have to have the heart of one and "face our fears" and find "blind spots"....which in my case is probably chicken little and a black out! This book is also very fascinating in the details of specific battles in wars that you would probably never hear about anywhere else. They make what you have to do in every day life seem like a cake walk! Yes, girls, this is a book that girls need to read. Because as Mr. Mayer points out, we are not just afraid failure, we are afraid of success.....well...not anymore. Amazing book. But then the characters are the finest people in all the world.

I will never be a Green Beret , but every one needs to overcome fear to succeed. This book is a must-have for everyone. I intend to send a copy to all three of my children. The tools in this book are very helpful and can be used in all areas of your life. I already see improvement in myself and feel better about myself after only one reading. I am learning to set goals and prepare for each day by planning ahead. I am more confident and less fearful. Everyone needs this book if you are a writer or someone looking for an attitude change for success.

learning lots of things I wouldn't have thought about before on prepping to meet my goals, on prepping to write a book, and on being more that average but rather to rise above and be elite.

My high hopes for this book were unmet. The info about Special Forces and Green Berets was the basic stuff that is well-trod territory. The premise is the importance of goal-setting as related to military missions. Whether or not I missed the point, most of the military stories used to illustrate a point seemed roughly told or transparent. The goal setting methodology described was tedious and quite lengthy considering it was based on a military 'action-oriented' theme. I was ultimately disappointed in this book. If the author is going to use the Special Forces draw for a discussion on goal-setting I would hope for something fresher than we've seen many times before with other books live, 'Leadership Secrets of some military branch', 'Management like a Navy SEAL' etc.

This was a gift.
This book gives the reader the knowledge of taking otherwise big risks in a knowledgeable, reasonable way.
Great book for anyone needing some reinforcement in their lives. I gave the book to a 10-yr old kid neighbor who was a little shy and insecure about being around others. He read the book and told me that it made a huge difference. So, if there are any kids out there, especially kids that love the military, this book might help them in a huge way.
