And now sadly hard to find. Once upon a time, the history of ideas was a real study, and Arthur Lovejoy was its dean. But now he is even more forgotten than Lionel Trilling. Sic transit. . . .

I couldn't agree more with the other reviewer: this is one of the great books of the 20th century (I've had my own copy for 40 years). The most telling comment on our own time is that such books (and authors) go forgotten and end up out of print.
