Costumes for the Stage A complete handbook for every kind of play Sheila Jackson. Costumes for Greek plays are easy to make and can be made on a fairly low budget from butter muslin (cheesecloth), old sheets, towelling (terrycloth) and old curtains. If you can afford them, soft crêpe (particularly wool crêpe) and various kinds of jersey will give more sophisticated results as they drape especially well, and artificial silk jersey is excellent for an elegant woman’s dress. But cheaper fabrics can give interesting and rewarding results and can often be enriched with painted pattern and texture.
