In this book, Horowitz established an inmediat rapport with Arrau and obtained an excellent result. Arrau will make a journey in the time and will reveal interesting details about his life experience. The analysis made for him about the Sonata in B minor of Liszt, for instance, his recordings sesions with Colin davis, her dhildhood memories, his memories when he saw Busoni playing the Hammerklavier and an unending amount of remarkable issues will make of this book a must reference for any viewer specially if this is a hard fan of the music.

Conversations with Arrau book. A truly wonderful collection of interviews between music critic Joseph Horowitz and the great Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau. Part biography, part survey of Arrau's repertoire and records, the book also includes contributions from Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis and others who have worked with Arrau. The only weakness is that Horowitz treats his subject with excessive veneration.

Joseph Horowitz (born 1948 in New York City) is an American cultural historian whose seven books mainly deal with the institutional history of classical music in the United States. As a producer of concerts, he has played a pioneering role in promoting thematic programming and new concert formats.

Fascinating questions, even more fascinating answers. About the pianist's life and method, but also about his judgments of other pianists. Candid.

Wonderful book. Many interesting thoughts and a look into a thinking world of a feeling musician with culture.

One of the most interesting books on piano I have ever read. Claudio Arrau was one of the greatest pianists of all time, and in this book of interviews Arrau gives responses to Horowitz's questions, but the responses are expansive and deeply informative of Arrau's thoughts. Chapters often deal with specific composers e.g. Liszt and Schubert, and Arrau spends some time recounting his early formative years with his teacher Martin Krause. The insights into Arrau's interpretation of great works like Liszt's B Minor sonata, as conveyed to him by Martin Krause, are fascinating. One of the best books on music I own.

First at all , I am not a Claudio Arrau fan . I recognize in him a notable thinker and a living witeness of the XX century .
