This is such a well told story about a fascinating period that I've checked it out and read it twice from my library -- decided to buy it because I know I'll read it again sometime. The figures showing the connections among all the people discussed are mesmerizing -- charting lovers, colleagues, rivals and sugar daddies/mommas during a surprisingly roaring period even before the roaring 20s. Highly recommended.
