Demonstrates how to operate an electric typewriter or word processor, and provides lessons designed to develop ones speed and accuracy
For an old book I had limited expectations, as far as style and setup. Unfortunately, this does not function as the old typing textbooks we had in the classrooms (the ones that folded over at the top so there would be no danger of the book closing up on you. The typing exercises are in VERY tiny print which would be better if just a couple of font sizes larger. They could do that, even in the mid-80's, so that is obviously not great. Our old textbooks for Keyboarding had nice easy to read exercises so that we could easily see the typing exercise without leaning forward or squinting. Yes, I do have new eyeglasses, so that's not it.

This was to teach a child who is expected to type everything in elementary school project and writing assignments. I will have to use Publisher to create these exercises, otherwise this kid will go blind and get more frustrated than ever.
If only they made exercises like this for keyboarding NOW...ones that aren't on software. Software-based keyboarding training CD ROMS at the school have done nothing to help and most of the kids are still hunting and pecking.

I'll be harvesting this book for its best attributes. I'll be nice as a demonstration and to adapt for my own child.
This is a great book for beginners. My husband, who is 95, wanted to learn how to type. I purchased this book for him and he found it very easy to follow, and guess what! He is typing paragraphs now. He is thrilled that he can now type correctly and is gaining speed each day. I am thrilled, because the book was so easy for him to follow. You have two extremely happy customers! We would highly recommend this book, and the shipper, because it came well before its anticipated arrival date, giving my husband a head start on his typing instructions. Thank you so much!
If you want to learn how to touch-type, this the book! Simple, takes it on a gradient and gives you all the basics and you'll be typing fast and touch-typing in no time!
This item seemed to take a particularly long time to ship. When it did arrive, I was somewhat surprised that it was not of a style that allows it to flip back the pages and create its own stand. A binder clip holds the pages in place but it's still a horizontal page turner. The author was simply a perfectionist which is to be much appreciated in this age of computers, cut and paste and spell check.
starting to renew my typing lessons
I bought this for my grandkids so they could do keyboard faster than one-or-two-fingers. But I compare it with the book I learned touch typing from (back when dinosaurs roamed the world) and I think its pedagogy is somewhat lacking, and the worst thing is that the way it's bound, there's no convenient way to hold it open to the page you want to type from.
I haven't had a book like this since I took typing in high school in the 60's. I recently bought a 1949 Smith Corona on EBay and wanted to brush up on my typing skills. I like that it shows the parts of the typewriter and starts with the real basics of using a typewriter (which over the years we forget). The skill building exercises I thought were fun. It even shows you how to fold a business letter in envelope and how to type addresses on the envelope. It is a perfect addition to my typewriter. The only thing I wish it had was how to replace the ribbon. Which I had to go to You Tube to find. If you are looking for a book for typewriter and not computer keyboard this is the book for you!
