I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. Whether you're being left or doing the leaving, are a career woman or a stay-at-home mom, the bread-winner or the dependent spouse--this book is for you. The advice is immediate. The steps to follow are clear. The author is neutral and factual. This book was exactly what I needed to prepare for a collaborative law settlement, without it I would have been clueless and blindsided. It helped me to know which pitfalls to watch for and what questions I should be asking.

I've found the information in this book to be helpful so far, but I may not end up reading most of it because the Kindle version is driving me crazy. I'm a longtime Kindle user, but highlighting and trying to make notes with my Kindle Voyage is tedious at best. I wish I had gotten the paperback version as I think it would have been easier to go old-school with a highlighter.
I would have preferred more real world examples to help break up some of the abundance of information. There are some there, but I have found myself wishing for more since it helps to me connect with the information easier.

The tax code and laws relating to divorce are complex. Most people are not exposed to them until they face their own divorce. Divorce & Money is a critical reference for anyone going through the process. I read relevant sections of it on a plane flight soon after starting my own divorce. Being armed with my own knowledge was incredibly valuable prior to meeting with financial advisers, mediators, and lawyers. Although additional references relating to state-specific laws are necessary, this book covers federal tax code and explains some of the more complex topics such as using a QDRO for splitting 401Ks and pensions. The book explains everything in clear language that does not require a degree in law or finance. I would recommend this book to anyone going through a divorce.

This is a good book for a person with a novice or medium level knowledge of money. It has some very good advice. Isn't difficult to understand. Some of the checklists the author recommends are a bit tedious and probably unnecessary but the point is to make sure one gets their financial house in order before they consider divorce and even after you decide (or your spouse decides) to file for divorce.

The book is okay for amicable divorce. Good information about options for selling the house or keeping it. Contains examples that I used in my divorce proceedings.
Most couples disagree over children. The next emotional issue is usually money. This book allows one to step back and look at the details of a reasonable distribution of assets and debts. It covers areas that one does not always think of during a stressful time. Handy as an overview and a checklist.
