JohnI have always liked the lexi-comp pharma texts.

Illustrated Handbook of Clinical Dentistry (Lexi-Comp's Dental Reference Library). JohnI have always liked the lexi-comp pharma texts. Then is has some sections with hand-drawn diagrams. That is totally unacceptable.

I read some of the other reviews and think this text is unfairly criticized. If you know everything in this book, you are amazing, check your ego at the door, and please donate this book to a dental student.

Predental students: Great introductory material to get your feet wet and familiarize yourself with information you will learn in dental school.

Dental students (1st and 2nd years): These are the main highlights from many of your didactic courses, this text would be great to supplement your studying.

Dental Students (3rd and 4th years): Great reference for when you want to refresh yourself on a specific situation, condition, drug, procedure. For example, you're a 3rd year doing your first endo on tooth #30. Before the appointment you can look up proper access form, possible root morphology (with probabilities, because Endo faculty love those), proper anesthesia (IANB technique if you need it), amount of lidocaine in each carpule, amount of epi, options for post op pain meds with prescription example.... All information that is rattling around in your head from your course work but not solidified by clinical experience.

Practicing dentist: Most of this handbook is material that you are very well acquainted with. Keep the book around for a quick reference for statistics, patient education, or MOA on drugs. Or, better yet, find an up and coming dental student and pass it on.

That's my two cents, hope this helps!

I have always liked the lexi-comp pharma texts. This dental text has some nice review sections with great graphics and charts. Then is has some sections with hand-drawn diagrams. That is totally unacceptable. I was able to do an internet search and find better diagrams in a few seconds. Seem like the authors decided to save a few bucks......That is bad considering that this is not a cheap text.

This book is high yield and covers a broad range of topics. I took the first ADEX exam and used this book as a primary source to study for the 6.5 hr written test (which I easily passed).
Information presented does not go into great depth, but then again that's what makes this such a good reference guide. If you are a dental student and forgot what the furcation classes signify you can find it in less than a minute. If you are a new doctor and don't know how much lidocaine to administer a 40 lb patient you can find that very quickly too.
In summery a great reference for quick high yield facts. Wish I had it in dental school during clinic time.

this is a book for more of prep for an exam. It doesn't give much of clinical help to an active clinician although things are organized in a concise manner.
It'd help as a study guide for a license exam since it covers all major field of dentistry. Periodontal chapter is probably lacking the most of clinical information. ( Again, it's not much of clinical reference but if I have to choose out of all the chapters.. )

This book is really written by a dental student. Dont expect too much info. The illustrations are hand drawn. It is lacking a simple operative dentistry section. I was expecting more from Lexi-Comp.
