They look out for their interests, stay up with them when they’re sick, clean up their messes when they’re sick - all of that investment helps the child grow and feel secure.

Resist indulging in disingenuous schmoozing, as it can be a severe put-off. At the end of the day, no amount of personal connection can substitute for great work.
