Bitty got her name because her husband, Davis, said she was just a little bitty thing when they met. Not anymore. Yes, yes, Lovey, I know, Bitty soothed away my lapse, always ready to forgive and make excuses for my failings. I flew into her open arms, breathing in the soft smell of vanilla talc that always surrounded Bitty. I’ve been meaning to call. Things just get so busy, don’t they? We braved the heat to make for the restaurant a few doors away. MoreLess Show More Show Less.

My wife recently started taking Japanese at a community college in our area, I took Japanese all through High School and in college. She wanted to get a few kids books to read at bedtime for our 3 children, and decided it would be fun to have one or two that we could read in Japanese.

This book is by far the better of the two she purchased, and the translation is spot-on. A mixed-blessing is that the roomaji (roman alphabet) for the Japanese is included, meaning you aren't forced to read the actual Japanese kana if you want to read it in Japanese. This is helpful to my wife, as a beginner to the language, but I would love it if it wasn't there and she was forced to use what she has been learning in her class.

The story is great, and both my 2 and 5 year old love to have us read it to them (my 2 year old prefers it in Japanese - success!).

Ok, so obviously it's a children's book. I mean, aside from the fact that it's listed in the children's book section, the illustrations you can see right on the cover are an indication that this book is intended for very young readers. For its intended audience it is really great. My daughter (6 when we bought this book) is at the beginner's stage. She knows a little spoken Japanese and is working on her first steps into reading and writing kana. The great thing is that the story is written in english, romaji, and kana, all on the same page together. So no matter where you are focusing your efforts (written or spoken) you have the translation into and out of all three right there. It's very nicely done. I wish there were more like it available! A wonderful book for the young language student, and an addition to our library that I am glad we made.

my 5 years old grand daughter reads English & French and loves books over toys but she showed very little interest for the too short story.

I bought the Japanese-English version of this book. The idea was to practice Japanese reading with an easy text. Unfortunately, this is the typical book for the very young so that texts are scarce (and extremely simple) while bold images cover the best part of each page. Fine as a book for small children but not a good choice to practice foreign language reading.

Inspiring to teach students that they can get published in a big way and really communicate through writing to a large audience. this 9year old author's work is very cute and translated into Japanese--I think it speaks easily to other audiences as welll--a fast read for simple Japanese language use...my daughter loves it, I plan to use it in my Japanese language class.

I bought a set of these three bilingual (English and Spanish/French/Japanese) books for my niece, aged three and a half. She's not quite reading yet, but I wanted to expose her to the idea of different languages early. She likes the bold and simple illustrations and the story when it is read to her in English.
