The Duke University Diet and Fitness Center has provided a straightforward approach in this book - it is presented in a way that makes it effective for those of us who want gradual change of lifestyle eating habits. I started with adding more vegetables to my diet, then more raw ones, then leaner dairy and meats, added in walking, then jogging, then weight training, and so on. Now down from 216 (size 24) to 130 (size 8) over the course of about 5 years, and some falling off the bandwagon along the way! I must insist that carbohydrates are not bad and do not make you fat - the key is selecting those that are free of fats, (like processed foods) and that are whole grains. Fiber "grabs" fat, so whole grains, which are high in fiber, actually DO help you lose weight. You feel more satisfied with smaller amounts, too! This book is an excellent tool whether you decide to do the suggestions one at a time, or all at once!
