After spending three years in his employ, I could write that book if I wanted to, for it was I who shadowed the bard of pharma, serial killers and boobies, the man Rolling Stone called The Biggest Rapper in History, the lyrical genius and pop culture scourge all the kids wanted to be like, be with or simply be - Ghost.

Then she noticed my expression. I walked toward her slowly. Yep,’ she said, doing a little shampoo commercial flip. Can’t even see the cut now, can you?’. Can’t even see the cut now, can you?’ ecognized yo. With her blonde hair, her rusty freckles seemed. You should have seen the bruise. Ugh, the purple under my hair, I might as well have taped a magnifying glass to my head. And it was time for a change anyway. It’s pretty,’ I said. Pretty fucking strange. James Hastings is the body double for a famous white rapper called Ghost. I absolutely loved this book. Ransom is a bit hit and miss, but he knocked this one out of the park

James Hastings is the body double for a famous white rapper called Ghost. When his wife Stacy dies in a hit and run, Hastings quits his lucrative post luring away obsessive fans and the tabloid press to allow the real Ghost some post-concert space and safety. Ransom is a bit hit and miss, but he knocked this one out of the park. It had me guessing the whole way through, and the ending is extremely well done, leaving it down to the reader to decide for themselves exactly what was going on, but not in a way that cops out.

If Christopher Ransom's The Birthing House had just been a biting and well-written novel about a contemporary marriage, that would have been enough to make it worth your time. If it had just been the kind of genuinely scary story that makes little hairs stand up on the back of your neck, that would have been sufficient as well. It's been almost a year since his wife's death and James Hastings is not getting over it. Then a new neighbor moves in next door and strange things start happening at James's house. Is his wife's ghost still hanging around?

Christopher Ransom is one of my favorite new authors. The Haunting of James Hastings is a fresh twist on a classic ghost story. Really a fantastic book all around and one that I highly recommend getting your hands on.

I was caught with in the first chapter, and could not put this book down. Loaded with suspense, interesting characters and plot twists, just could not stop reading it till I rushed to the conclusion! I can't wait to read his first book, the Birthing House.
