By the time he’d finally dragged himself out of bed his mother had been at work for hours and generally he saw no one until either Christopher or Scott or the pair of them came round after school nch he fixed for himself in the microwave, heating up some frozen this or that. When he opened his art folder everything inside seemed pointless and boring. Whenever he tried settling down to read his book, he found concentration difficult.

This is a quick read and very engrossing. Mr. Harvey always is able to bring you right into the atmosphere of his books. This book is the story of a young man growing up. He lost godfather at an early age, and his mother has struggled to make ends meet and teach him values. As usual, music plays a part in the book. I have never read a John Harvey book that I did not think was excellent, I read every book I can get by Mr. Harvey. This was no exception, I really enjoyed it.yup
Andromajurus
this is a very tedious story, predictable and cliche ridden. Detective woth personal problems brilliantly solves case. Read it before. Harvey ususally gives more.

Even though I am across the pond, as the saying goes, I found this to be gritty and realistic. I completely enjoyed this story and plan to read more from this author.

Harvey manages to drag you into the book and you become a part of it, read in a single sitting. Well researched, genuine characters and a storyline that won't let go. Well up to the class of his previous works if not ahead.

The book was fine, but the copy I bought had crayon markings in the middle pages. Not cool.
Lahorns Gods
Lovely book about a sensitive and good young man struggling to grow up. Great characters and quite moving. Not a detective story
