The only thing better than reading Captain Tex's book is flying wth him. Every flight was a story in itself!. I was one of the lucky one's to fly with the historic Frontier and even luckier to have been Captain Searle's co-pilot. He is a pilot extraordinare having himself flown with many of the stalwarts whose stories have been included in "The Golder Years of Flying." I may be predujiced, but I would bet once you pick up the Tex Searle book you won't want to put it down...

I worked at the Old Frontier Airlines as a "stewardess" and a supervisor from 1968 to 1975 and loved these old planes and the excellent pilots that flew them. Such wonderful nostagia!

Nostalgic having worked for FAL from 1966 to 1970 and knowing a few of the pilots mentioned in the book.

This book is awesome. My husband, Hal Wheeler was a Capt. for Frontier and he would have loved this book. He died Dec. 2010. It sits on my coffee table.

This is a wonderful account of early airline flying, describing the navigation, lifestyle, passion, close calls, passenger life, and stewardesses of the 50s. A great read for any aviation buff.

As a pilot myself, this book really captures the way it was for the early pioneers of commercial flying. The collection of stories takes you from the beginning of the use of DC-3's for hauling mail, to the advent of flying passengers on regular routes and into the age of jets. Many of the stories are about flying the moutain states, back in a day when DC-3's could barely get over the terrain, as the passengers sat in the unpressurized cabin oblivious to the skills of the pilot's up front. With the little navigation equipment they had then compared to now, you get a real appreciation of how good these pilots were and how frustrated they felt as they aged to be confronted with mandatory retirement at a time when their experience still made them the best pilot's in the air.
As enjoyable are the many stories of the pilot's antics, to break up the monotony of the flying, mostly at the expense of the cabin attendants, ground crews and rookie first officers

This book was written by a friend of my grandfather. I grew up listening to some of the story's in this book about my grandfather then read the book and the stories were identical. I met Cpt. Tex Searle at my aunts wedding and was very impressed by the man. Even if you aren't into flying this book will be an extremely enjoyable read.
