Various examples of rockbursts in Dongguashan Copper Mine are analysed. Rockburst handbook for Ontario hardrock mines. Rock Mechanics - an introduction for the practical engineer. The limitations of the approach are addressed. Contrary to conventional methods where only rock materials or rock specimens were used for investigation of rockbursts, this study attaches more attention on the structural effect on rockbursts, which may appeal to practising engineers.

This was expanded by a further four stations in 1950. In North America, the rst rockburst was believed to have occurred at the Atlantic copper mine in Michigan in 1904 Bolstad (1990) and as early as 1928 in Canada. By the late 1930s in the Coeur dAlene silver mining district in Idaho, and in the early 1940s in the Sudbury and Kirkland Lake areas of Ontario the rockburst problem was regarded as a serious safety hazard.
A rock burst is a spontaneous, violent failure of rock that can occur in high-stress mines
A rock burst is a spontaneous, violent failure of rock that can occur in high-stress mines. The opening of mine workings relieves neighboring rocks of tremendous pressure, which can literally cause the rock to explode, or trigger abrupt movement on nearby geological structures.

The rockburst phenomenon is successfully simulated in the laboratory. The experimental results show that occurrence of rockburst is attributed to the gradual energy accumulation and sudden energy release in the rock. This study provides an experimental basis for further investigating the influence of rock mechanics properties on underground construction and safe assessment in the Beishan area.
