Nimrod, a biblical figure described as a king in the land of Shinar (Mesopotamia), was, according to the Book of Genesis and Books of Chronicles, the son of Cush, the grandson of Ham and great-grandson of Noah began to be mighty in the earth". Extra-biblical traditions associating him with the Tower of Babel led to his reputation as a king who was rebellious against God.

Who was Nimrod? Thank you for the ask to answer. The name ‘Nimrod’ was rooted from the Hebrew word ‘Marad’ which means ‘Rebel,’ since he was the first human who dare to rebel against God’s commandments and made a rival religion, a Babylonian system. Nimrod’ was one of the son of Cush, the son of Ham, the son of Noah. According to the Bible record, he was thought to be the founder of the city and the tower of Babylon. He subdued many humans by establishing kingdoms and he made himself as the ruler. This was, of course, an act of defying God, since the true ruler of mankind is God and not man.

Nimrod International Journal - The University of Tulsa - Volume 46 Number 2 - Spring/Summer 2003 Nimrod's "Who We Are" purposefully invites questions, interpretation and re-interpretation. The poems, stories and essays you will find here are a palimpsest of experience that embraces time and images from an untamed land, which is the self and the other. "Who we are" is also - where we are. Our strong sense of place - of tamarind and orange, rock and wheat, river and ocean, highway and city - part of the presentation of self..... Yet, we are also escape artists, inhabiting neither country nor family, performing tricks to deny our impermanence..... Within "creation's groan," we find how death visits us always peremptorily, sometimes violently; yet "what large investment life makes in the smallest of its forms." In this issue 74 individual writers and artists wrestle with and craft responses that wake up or se4nses and affirm life and art.
