We experience some gains and some losses. Each of these moments leave an imprint on the rich tapestry of our souls. Memoirs for Kimya' is a collection of whispers and a tribute to the many people we meet along life's journey.

Shafinaaz Hassim is a South African author, poet and sociologist. Her works include Daughters are Diamonds: Honour, Shame & Seclusion- A South African Perspective and Memoirs For Kimya. In her book Sophia, she tackles the issue of abuse which has been written and told in many different ways accross the world. Sophia featured at the Time of the Writer 2013, at the Wordfest at National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and will also feature at this year's Jozi Book Fair this coming weekend. In the studio we are joined by Shafinaaz Hassim to discuss her book Sophia.

Shafinaaz Hassim is the author of 'Daughters are Diamonds: Honour, Shame and Seclusion - A South African Perspective' (2007) and Memoirs For Kimya (2009). Her recent publication, 'SoPhia' (2012) a novel on domestic violence, has received great acclaim. She has lectured in Sociology at UKZN in Durban, and at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, SA.
