I had this book back in the day like 20-30 years ago. Some of the claims then just seemed kind of far out there. It's strange though, that not even being able to remember the title: Mind Cosmology, and to say the least was eventually gone. How that I remembered enough about some of the techiques, that I off and on ever so often posed the question to whatever you want to call it, subconscious, higher mind, how that after more than a quarter century later, deep within the recesses of my mind was able to tune in, connect to, whatever you want to call it, that I was able to find it once again. Now many scientific, and medical discoveries proves that by conscious mind, you can slow your heart beat down or up, same way with brain waves, enter alpha state, change and re-write your DNA...Herbert Benson M.D. had a book put out entitled "The Relaxation Response" in which studies found possible many such findings, blood pressure be lowered...etc. It boils down to this: There is coming to light that many of these ancient practices holds proof positive test after test that the things aren't just there for your entertainment, but has been preserved in the ages, to be brought back to light. Remember faith is the key element in all such undertakings. Once a person belives, and discovers that it is so, then it is no longer theory, but knowledge. Does not even the Word of God say according to Hebrews 11:6 ...But without faith it is impossible to please him. Many may be put off by what I just said, and that's ok too, to each their own. In a nutshell is this, find what speaks to you, the rest let go if it doesn't. Even the Great Martial Artist and Legend Bruce Lee said something to that effect. Do I whole heartedly say take it all in and shallow it? No..but there are truths hidden. You must be wise, seek, discern, and let your own spirit and conscience lead you, for if you do not hear your own spirit speak from within your mind, then isn't you that will put yourself in a bind?

This was to replace a book I loaned out and never got back. A trult fantastic book.

I have exactly the same feelings as the earlier reviewer: this one is no different from most of the other books covering the same subject. I agree that there are too many personal testimonies and not enough "meat," but even so, this is certainly not a bad self-help book. My favourites of the genre are by Joseph Murphy and Catherine Ponder, and although these also include lots of testimonies, there is something special in theit writing style. Norvell also emphasizes the 2 main techniques of conditioning yourself for success, by (1) affirmations (2) meditation. Other authors to be investigated include Stuart wilde, John Randolp Price and Florence Scovel-Shinn. But this one is OK, especially at the reasonable price.

This is a shallow conglomeration (see Organizations in a changing society: Administration and human values) of basic problem solving & metaphysical techniques supported by numerous unverifiable "case studies"--esp. if you've studied these subjects. The case study events can happen, but they're unlikely ~ winning the lottery on one ticket--don't count on it. Of course, there are no supporting statistics--the "Science of Mind Cosmology" isn't scientific. It includes overstated "scientific" claims--findings stretched WAY out of proportion & grossly overestimates the value of affirmations (scientifically useless without supporting efforts). Apparently, Norvell counsels people & they change overnight--but this in reality takes a "Significant Emotional Experience." I'd suggest pursuing an Alcoholics Anonymous regimen, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or Rosicrucians (Wisdom of the Mystic Masters). Consider ADM Hart's motto: "Grant me the courage to change the things I can, the serenity to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference." There's a big difference between theory & practice, between opportunity & results--perspiration after the inspiration.

The book's pretty materialistic--e.g. seeking a given amount of money (in truth a means not an ends). This assumes you know what you want--let alone what you need. Most people don't &, as Oscar Wilde said, "the two worst things in life are to not get what you want & to get what you want," as shown in the TV shows "The Millionaire" & "Lottery." One must "Know Thyself" (per the Delphic Oracle) first, then find a stretching but reachable goal & create a plan to pursue it. Then you can implement subconscious & metaphysical techniques such as Norvell's to facilitate the process. Brainstorming doesn't work unless it's followed by analysis--one needs critical as well as creative thinking. Norvell provides content without context--information without knowledge--wandering in fantasyland. Per Philadelphia Saving Fund Society ads: "wishing won't do it, but saving will." Other practical factors include heredity, karma, providence, life experiences (see Prisoners Of Childhood-reissue). Techniques won't turn an IQ of 50 into a Nobel prize in physics.

Also, there are great numbers of mistakes: "Transcendental Meditation" (not Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's TM) is described as a panacea (though it's helpful--I've been doing it for decades); p. 100: soul/astral travel (see Lucid Dreaming); p.80: denies heredity is a factor in disease; p. 141: confuses psychokinesis with telepathy; believes in black magic of "psycho hypnosis" (cf. Mental Poisoning (Rosicrucian Library Volume 17)); p. 179: says brain has desire cells; p. 186: gives nonsense on brain waves/frequencies (I'm an elex engineer)--e.g. says "geniuses accelerate the rhythm of their brain waves;" p. 191: says cells replaced every 2 years (it's 7); p. 199: incorrect Indian Mani mantra of Avalokiteshvara; p. 201: uses red for healing & meditation; speaks of "cosmic protoplasm;" thinks he can help people live 200 years; ignores "happily ever after?" of longitudinal studies; & uses buzzwords ad nauseam. Norvell does not demonstrate real understanding.

While there are some valuable techniques herein, they're either very basic &/or commonsense & assume major attitude adjustments of past patterns--not easy to do. Thus, I find this book simplistic & misleading, even ignoring the many errors. If you want to "re-program" your subconscious, you'd be better off with  rather than this one.
