Heart Failure Unit, Attikon University Hospital, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. 31. School of Medicine, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) has published a series of guidelines on heart failure (HF) over the last 25 years, most recently in 2016.

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have been used to reduce unnecessary and undesirable variations in clinical practice. Many facilities succeed in developing and using these tools, while others conclude that they are not worth the effort. This article describes the results of a systemwide analysis of the processes a healthcare system used to plan, develop, implement, and measure CPGs after several years of experience. Extensive interviews were conducted at facilities in which the CPG program was active to determine what factors had contributed to its success or failure.

Clinical risk factors include history of heart disease, compensated HF. .Table 4 The three clinical heart failure scenarios and the clinical profiles in each scenario. Precardiotomy heart failure.

Clinical risk factors include history of heart disease, compensated HF, cerebrovascular disease, presence of diabetes mellitus, renal insufficiency and high-risk surgery. EuroSCORE reliably predicts perioperative cardiovascular alteration in patients aged less than 80 years. Kaplan Meier curves showing survival rates of ICU patients with different acute heart failure (HF) syndromes over time, starting at the day of ICU admission. The small vertical lines indicate the time points when patients had their last follow-up.

Heart failure is a common clinical syndrome characterized by dyspnea, fatigue, and signs of volume overload, which may include peripheral edema and pulmonary rales. Heart failure has high morbidity and mortality rates, especially in older persons. Many conditions, such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and diabetes mellitus, can cause or lead to decompensation of chronic heart failure.

The following Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) represent the rst CPGs on the management of decompensated cirrhosis. Initial patient evaluation should include history, physical examination, abdominal ultrasound, and labo-ratory assessment of liver and renal functions, serum and urine electrolytes, as well as an analysis of the ascitic uid.

EASL Clinical Practical Guidelines on the managementof acute (fulminant) liver failure. EASL Clinical Practical Guidelines on the management of acute (fulminant) liver failureq. European Association for the Study of the Liver. The term acute liver failure (ALF) is frequently applied as a gen-eric expression to describe patients presenting with or develop-ing an acute episode of liver dysfunction.

This is the first volume in a series of titles based on the clinical practice guidelines developed by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. This volume provides recommendations to practising primary care doctors, general internists, and nurse practitioners on the evaluation and care of patients with heart failure. The focus is on decision-making and cost-effectiveness related to different treatments and therapies. It further discusses the flexibility that is necessary in interpreting the guidelines, differing opinions in the field, and how these theoretical guidelines compare to the reality of patient variability. Practical issues of managing the patient are stressed.
