RetailAlone at ChristmasGreg Bennett feels his life has been a waste. Sixty years old and he has no one to spend Christmas with, no one who cares. Greg knows he's made mistakes, hurt people, failed in all the ways that matter. As a young man, he fathered a child he never acknowledged. He deserted a friend in his hour of need. Debbie Macomber, the author of The Inn at Rose Harbor, as well as the Cedar Cove and Blossom Street series, is a leading voice in women’s fiction. Five of her novels have scored the slot on the New York Times bestseller list, with three debuting at on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly lists.

On the anniversary of his beloved wife’s death, Dr. Michael Everett receives a letter Hannah had written him.

In it she reminds him of her love and makes one final request. An impossible request—I want you to marry again. She tells him he shouldn’t spend the years he has left grieving her. And to that end she’s chosen three women she asks him to consider.

First on Hannah’s list is her cousin, Winter Adams, a trained chef who owns a café on Seattle’s Blossom Street. The second is Leanne Lancaster, Hannah’s oncology nurse. Michael knows them both. But the third name is one he’s not familiar with—Macy Roth.

Each of these three women has her own heartache, her own private grief. More than a year earlier, Winter broke off her relationship with another chef. Leanne is divorced from a man who defrauded the hospital for which she works. And Macy lacks family of her own, the family she craves, but she’s a rescuer of strays, human and animal. Macy is energetic, artistic, eccentric—and couldn’t be more different from Michael.

During the months that follow, he spends time with Winter, Leanne and Macy, learning more about each of them…and about himself. Learning what Hannah already knew. He’s a man who needs the completeness only love can offer. And Hannah’s list leads him to the woman who can help him find it.

Hannah’s List is a very emotional book by Debbie Macomber. It is fantastic and you have problems putting it down once you start. It looks at starting over after the death of a loved one.
Dr. Michael Everett is tired of people telling him it is time to get over her death of his beloved wife. As if you can forget the love of your life after 365 days. Even Hannah’s brother tried to set him up. Then on the first anniversary of her death, her brother, Ritchie, gives him a letter that Hannah had written and asked him to give Michael on this day. Even Hannah wants him to get on with his life.
Hannah tells Michael that it is Ok and it is time for him to move on in his life. She does not want him to forget her; but she knows he has the potential for loving someone one else. She does not want him to be alone and wants him to find love again and have the family they were not able to have. To help him, she has chosen three women she wants him to date. Hannah has her own reasons for choosing these three women. Maybe one of them will be a good fit or maybe each of them can help him take a step forward and maybe help them.
Will Michael take Hannah up on her list? Is he ready? Each of these women meant something to Hannah and she wants Michael to understand that something.

What can one say about a Debbie Macomber novel that hasn't already been said? Love her characters - so easy to form friendships with them even though they are just on paper. And just a hint of other Blossom Street folks as well.

I typically read other genres, but this book intrigued me. Hannah's list is a light, quick read, and while very predictable, it was a fun summer book.

Michael Everett is devastated by his young wife's (Hannah) death. Hannah had no symptoms, but when Michael and Hannah had fertility issues she found out that she had stage 4 ovarian cancer. Michael, a physician, blamed himself for not realizing that something was wrong with Hannah and while she accepted her fate, Michael did not. On the one year anniversary of her death, Michael's brother-in-law (Hannah's brother) gave Michael a letter written by Hannah. Hannah asked that her brother deliver it to Michael one year after hear death. In the letter, Hannah expressed her love for her husband and her regret that they never shared a child. She asked Michael to move on with his life, re-marry and have children because she thought that he would make a wonderful father. Michael was taken aback, but the letter continued by suggesting 3 women whom Hannah believed would be potentially good matches for Michael.

While Michael seemed appauled by the suggestion, he reluctantly set out to meet the women. All 3 were going through their own heartache through challenges that they face. Winter, Hannah's cousin, was desperately in love with Pierre. However, Winter and Pierre had a volatile relationship and were on a break when Michael contacts her. Leanne, Hannah's oncology nurse, suffered a tragically embarrasing divorce ending with her ex-husband serving time in jail. While therapists and friends encouraged her to move on with her life, she had a hard time moving forward.....was Michael the one to help her out of her rut? Finally, Macy who was a quirky, free spirit. Macy, a model and painter, who lived next door to an 86 year old man that was like a grandfather to her, always seemed to sabotage relationships before she could get too close.

All three women and Michael had significant relationship losses. Through their hurt, the author has carefully crafted a story on how one man is able to heal by exploring the possibilities with these three women. While this sounds rather distasteful having one man see three women, the encounters all begin at a friendship type level so there is no "cheating" on Michael's part. He acts like a true gentleman from the memories of his wife as well as he explores the possibilities with the women.

Hannah's list is a fun read, predictable and has a happy outcome for all of the characters. I debated as to whether to rate it 3 or 4 stars but chose 3 because is not a believable book, but a happy one. All of the "best possible outcomes" for each character comes true. I would have prefered a few plot lines left for the reader to reflect on what might have happened. Nonetheless, it is a great book to bring on a summer trip to the beach.

I read this book sometime back, but decided to read again to see if perspectives had changed. A although the story about a widower attempting to get over the death of his wife had some appeal, the story itself was kind of weak. A wife leaves a list of potential wife candidates to replace her, and he falls for one while dating all three. The one he falls for I just don't see it. It feels like some was left out of the story, lives missing from the story.

Debbie Macomber writes with feeling and knows how to express deep emotion into her characters. I am 80 or so and have been married four times and
have known overwhelming love that sweeps everything before it... Yet even before I finished the first page I was flooded with tears at her description
of Michael's missing the love he and Hannah had shared from the beginning...

The magic of this book is that his wife who died of cancer at 36 had given her brother a letter to give to her husband one year after she
was gone... The remainder of the story is about her husband's difficulty in accepting the affectionate details she listed for his future life.

Has already been written about this subject quite a bit. I did not like the way of provision the women like that, I think there is something humiliating in the way of comparison between the three women, each one could match the hero of the story. He had to go out with them, getting to know them, and actually put them in a very uncomfortable situation without them knowing that he examined them.
I liked the letter of his wife, she encouraged her husband to move on , and pushed him toward it, by choosing for him mates who could match him. But I did not like the way he did it, there was something not right in my eyes.

I read Debbie Macomber books to relax and escape. "Hannah's List" did just that. I love how the story evolves and how the grieving husband comes around to discover love again through with the help of his deceased wife Hannah. While some may believe this is as a feel good book I believe it's to show you that even though there was a tragedy in your life you may find the second love right at your front door. Yes I have read Debbie Macomber novels and will continue to read them. I love losing myself in the characters' adventures. Thanks Amazon for having another great read for my Kindle!
