Book 2 in Terry Spear's Highland Wolf Series. Meets a Dangerous Distraction. Duncan MacNeill is hell-bent on catching the thief who's stolen the clan's fortune and run off to Grand Cayman Island. I never imagined that I would visit Grand Cayman Island with a hunky Highland wolf-shifter, but that's exactly what happened when I read "A Howl for a Highlander" from talented storyteller Terry Spear! The author's own visit to the island paradise fueled her well-defined powers of description and eye for detail, and you'll feel as though you too are seeing the sparkling sea, the shining sand, and the lush flora and greenery of the island.

A Howl for a Highlander, . part of Heart of the Wolf Series. None of their kind could go to prison-not when they could shift to wolf during the appearance of the moon, unless the werewolf was a royal-so a werewolf had to take care of the matter in a werewolf’s way. With barely any human roots, the royals could shift at will but they would still feel the compelling urge to shift at some point over the year, even if the moon didn’t dictate the need. A Highland Werewolf Wedding is another shining example of exactly why Terry Spear is the Queen of the shifter romance. The hills of Scotland make a dramatic backdrop for this novel, and the characters are pleasing and well written.

My Thoughts

Let me start off by saying that this is my first book by Terry Spears and she didn't disappoint me and won't be the last. I love her style of writing. This plot was filled with great characters and had a smooth flowing plot with bits of intrigue and danger and a very endearing couple who found romance and love and one's mate among the danger and intrigue going on around them. The book was a page turner from the very first page couldn't wait to see what happened next.

I have to say that Duncan and Shelley were very likable characters and easy to relate to.Duncan won my heart from the very beginning of the story with his good deed straight off the bat and I knew then that I was going to fall in love with him ! Ah....

Duncan is on a mission to go a find the man who has stolen there fortune which brings him to the Caribbean where the thief is hiding out in his compound.Without the funds return the clan will fall to ruin. It's up to Duncan to get the funds back and restored to his Laird who is also his brother before its to late. Here on the island he meets Shelley Campbell botanist who is on the island to study the old growth forests who turns out to be a mesmerizing little werewolf who he meets at the airport.

Who would of thought running into another of your kind on a Caribbean Island know less !Duncan's attraction to the sexy wolf is not one he needs to have when he is on a mission ! But, fate has other ideas...when the one that Duncan is stalking takes and interest in his pretty little werewolf he now has a new complication he did not need. Now, he is thinking there will have to be a new plan as her safety is most important.

Although this couple has gone to the island for different reasons and neither on vacation like most people would be they both turn to one another when both are in need of help. The attraction between this couple is explosive from the onset.Shelley and Duncan made the cutest couple even though Duncan is looking at there situation as a fling and no more.

Shelley surprised me. I found her to be witty and funny and tough as nails when she needed to be.Love -able and loyal and fierce when those threaten who and what she cares about.Who would have thought that the little botanist was a warrior at heart !And Duncan a fierce Highlander with a loving and caring side to him.Protective and loyal and dangerously sexy with and aura that says danger....

Just loved this story all around and if I could give it more than five stars I would. This story contained all the things I love shape-shifters wolves and great plot that had you so engrossed because it was constantly changing bringing more danger at every turn wondering what next ? Loved the developing romance between this couple. There were tons of sexy encounters for you to read about among and some really hot sex scenes that would have anyone salivating! And of course a few tears and laughter. But, most of all Duncan ,who touched my heart with his big Highlander heart both fierce and protective of not only when it came to Shelley but, that of the way he spoke of his Laird and clan and family had your heart melting. I was In love right from the very beginning.I was glad to be on Duncan's adventure with him were danger lurked at every turn taking you for one heck of a ride. And I loved the setting of this book.It had me intrigued that you would put a brawny highlander smack dab in the middle of a Caribbean ! The descriptions of the tropical island and that of Duncan's home had you feeling that you were right there with them. And most of all you got to love it when a mere slip of she-wolf brings a fierce hunky highlander to his knees. That's Priceless ! A excellent read just Loved it.

Recommended read to all ! After reading this story and just had to go an order the rest of Terry Spears books and did just that !The finished book went into my keeper pile and has earned a new place among all my other favorite books. You know that you have written a great book when the reader can't wait to read the book all over again after just finishing it

Have you fallen for Terry Spear yet? She writes a wonderful Werewolf Series.. It isn't a traditional series as it doesn't follow a straight line rather more of a trail with many forks. What it has in common is, it's about werewolves. Some of the books follow one story-line and others follow another with seemingly nothing in common except, well they are werewolves. One would think that this was a rather disjointed way of working a story but it works. A Howl for A Highlander is the 10th book in the over all series but the second in this particular branch.

Duncan MacNeill has left his clan on a mission. He is attempting to track down the wolf who swindled his clan out of millions of dollars. This money is the lifeblood of the pack and they want it back. Poor guy has to take a trip to the Caiman Islands.. yeah I felt for him. Sure he is on duty but what a way to suffer. He was barely off the plane before he scented a female wolf. Worried that she was alone, whether she be young or old a female shifter deserves protection, he searched her out and had one of those classic meeting of the eyes across a crowded airport.

Shelley Campbell, was raised to actively despise the Scottish Clans. Especially those who remained in Scotland while they forced members of their clan off their lands. And when you are a werewolf it's not like you are remembering a distant path.. it's your parents you are talking about. She knew that a Highland Wolf would be trouble but when her grant falls through and she finds out that Duncan lost his place to stay.. she offers him a room in her villa as a way to take care of both of their problems.

Of course that created an entire set of new problems... It seems that the man/wolf who swindled the MacNeills also stole from Shelley's college and was the reason she lost her grant. Making Shelley want to get justice as well. While Shelley was supposed to be working on her research she spent most of her time enjoying the island with Duncan. This bothered me..

While I enjoyed this book, I felt like there was just too much going on.. The villain was a bad guy, then maybe not.. He wanted Shelley but he was mated already, was there more to it? Shelley was researching plants that could help in the shifting.. did he want her for her research? Was his mate an innocent bystander? Was she a villain? Was Shelley's family Laird hating American Scots? Or did they really just want to go home?

There really was an awful lot of superflous information going on that I felt took over the story. This was sad because I have truly enjoyed this series so far. BUT that being said, it was still a fun read and honestly.. Highlander, Werewolf.. does it really get any better than that?

Terry Spear is an accomplished writer who has created one of the more thoroughly developed werewolf societies I've ever read, and I have read hundreds of them. I've followed this series since the first book came out a few years ago. It has had its ups and downs, but all the books have been well written. This book is a highlight in the series. The characters of Duncan and Shelley are engaging, relatable, and just plain likable. The plot moves quickly, which is one of the things that is not always there in the series. Sometimes Spear's stories get bogged down on the workings of werewolf society, but that is not the case here. The chemistry is present from the beginning in much the same way as it has been in her other stories, but it is given time to grow. Unlike many romances, these werewolves are not able to simply jump into each other's beds from the get go. In their society, sex to another werewolf equals mating for life and their lives are long. This means our hero and heroine must get to know each other first, which means we get the character development that seems to elude many novels nowadays. The villain is sleazy and hard to pin down which makes for an interesting chase. All in all, the book was very entertaining and I would recommend it to readers who enjoy solid storytelling and a good werewolf plot.
