Cassie pored over every cookbook she owned. They were all full of wonderful recipes. Even more encouraging, the instructions didn’t seem too difficult. Even more encouraging, the instructions didn’t seem too difficult ner: roast turkey with a traditional stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh green beans with butter and sliced almonds, two different salads and three kinds of pie, apple, pumpkin and pecan. Her grocery list was two pages long. Angie had offered to help with the shopping; she’d also volunteered to set the table.

The Perfect Christmas. Today, Debbie Macomber is not only active in writing books

The Perfect Christmas. Hardcover Paperback Kindle. Today, Debbie Macomber is not only active in writing books. At the age of 64, she is a volunteer mentor for young writers and she is also active in fundraising for the shelters for battered women in the USA. During her spare time, she and her husband enjoy traveling all over the world as well as try new things for the benefit of developing the characters of her novels.

What would make your Christmas perfect? For Cassie Beaumont, it's meeting her perfect match. Cassie, at thirty-three, wants a husband and kids, and so far, nothing's worked. Not blind dates, not the internet and certainly not leaving love to chance. What other options are there? Well…she could hire a professional matchmaker. Simon Dodson has quite a reputation, but he's very choosy about the clients he takes on—and very expensive. Cassie considers him a difficult, acerbic know-it-all, and she's astonished when he accepts her as a client.Claiming he has her perfect mate in mind, Simon assigns her three tasks to complete before she meets this paragon. Three tasks that are all about Christmas: being a charity bell-ringer, dressing up as Santa's elf at a mall and preparing a traditional turkey dinner for her neighbors (most of whom she happens to dislike). Despite a number of comical mishaps, Cassie does it all—and then she's finally ready to meet her match. But just like the perfect Christmas gift, he turns out to be a wonderful surprise!

I purchased this thinking it was a new book. I checked the publication date to confirm that it is new. It is not new! This is the third Debbie Macomber book I have been tricked into purchasing. I read this book in paperback way before I owned a Kindle. There should be some way of indicating that a book is a republication and give te original publication date.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
Cassie and Angie, of a certain age, both admit they would like to be married and have children, but in their work environment they are not likely to meet young men, nor have any of the places they have looked. They want a perfect husband, perfect children, and perfect Christmases in a perfect home. They each decide to try a matchmaker who charges exorbitant rates, as a last resort. They confide in Cassie's brother, Shawn, who thinks they are crazy to try such a thing. Why would Angie be turned down by the matchmaker and Cassie be taken on as a client? The matchmaker is abrupt, ill-mannered, insulting, and distant. He sets 3 directives that Cassie has to accomplish if he takes her on. The changes these make in her life and the love that finds her is the crux of the story. I enjoyed it.

This book on Kindle contains recipes and then another book, "Can This Be Christmas?" which was a delightful surprise. It is about individuals on a train on their way home for Christmas . They had been diverted from their plane schedules because of a huge snowstorm in Maine on their way to Boston to make connections. Each is going to a different location; each has a story. Their stories and how they handle the breakdown of the tracks and spend the night in a train station makes the interesting tale. It is fascinating in both these books to discover how people grow in maturity from the disappointments of life. A very good read.

I enjoyed this book so much! Debbie Macomber is a pro at bringing characters to life and producing situations that make us laugh and cry at the same time.
"The Perfect Christmas" presents two stories in one book. The first story is named like the book. Cassie Beaumont feels that she's destined for spinsterhood. By recommendation of her best friend who is also her work companion, she visits a male matchmaker who has the prerogative of deciding if he will take her on as a client or not! What follows would honestly make an amusing holiday movie that I would watch. At the end there are some free Christmas recipes included. I had been hoping that the recipes would be for the dishes that Cassie cooked for a Christmas dinner but those are probably available in the holiday recipe book by the author which is also advertised at the end.
"Can This Be Christmas" is an absolutely beautiful drama that embodies what the Christmas spirit should be. I recommend this book to everyone who … just to everyone!

First Thought when Finished: The Perfect Christmas by Debbie Macomber was a quick, sweet, and fun Christmas read.

Story Thoughts: The Perfect Christmas was a sweet Christmas romance! The story was short and sweet but made for a great afternoon read with a hot cup of tea. I love matchmaker storylines so that made me smile. My only complaint was the end was much to quick for me. However, the rest of the story was delightful and fun! Perfect for the season.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by Tavia Gilbert / LENGTH 4 hrs and 13 mins

Tavia is one of my favorite narrators and she did an excellent job with The Perfect Christmas. Her pacing, emotion, and delivery were spot on and I think did the characters justice.

Final Thoughts: The Perfect Christmas made for a great holiday read.

Sorry, but this book is simply dreadful! I simply CANNOT believe the reviews here. It was silly, the main character (Cassie) was lame and nonsensical. Simon was one dimensional (her "surprise" love interest) without the least chemistry between them. The side characters (her friend and brother) were completely one dimensional also! I feel that I absolutely wasted my money - about half way through I began to simply skim...and then gave up. The author has many other pleasant and entertaining books; THIS is not one of them.

This Kindle version contained two different stories (The Perfect Christmas, Can This Be Christmas) as well as some extras, including an interview with Debbie Macomber and some holiday recipes. I found both stories in this book to be cheery and nice, light holiday reading. In The Perfect Christmas, thirty-something Cassie pays $30k to matchmaker Simon to find her perfect husband and have a perfect Christmas (gag reflex engaged). Simon challenges her to complete three tasks, where she learns more about herself and finds some (semi-predictable?) surprises along the way. The characters were likable, and the story had a few twists and turns. In Can This Be Christmas, a motley collection of travelers are stranded in a train depot in New Hampshire on Christmas Eve, where they overcome their individual concerns and band together to make the best of the situation. Again, a nice light read to get you into the holiday spirit. Recommended read for a quick, happy ending type of book
