Charlotte Elkins is an American author who teamed with her husband, writer Aaron Elkins, to write a series of mystery novels about Lee Ofsted, a struggling female professional golfer. Before becoming a full-time writer, Charlotte was a self-employed artist, secondary school teacher, and the librarian of American art at the . de Young Museum in San Francisco from 1980 - 1981. Elkins started her career in 1981 writing five mass-market romance novels for Mills & Boone/Harlequin under the pseudonym, Emily Spenser, which were translated and sold in over a dozen countries.
Charlotte Elkins makes her mystery debut with her husband Aaron, 1988 Edgar winner for Old Bones and author of five additional top whodunits. Golf-pro Lee Ofstead nearly gives up when a "wicked slice" hurts her game during the women's tournament in Carmel, Calif. Admiring while envying Kate O'Brian, star of the golf pro circuit, Lee dreams of similar triumphs, but the scenario becomes a nightmare when somebody murders Kate.

Charlotte Elkins (born July 4, 1948) is an American author who teamed with her husband, writer Aaron Elkins, to write a series of mystery novels about Lee Ofsted, a struggling female professional golfer. Elkins was born in Houston, Texas, but her father was an itinerant carpenter and the family moved frequently, living mostly in the southwest and Southern California. I like the Elkins, separately or apart. Not surprising, therefore, that I liked this little romp on the golf course as young Lee Ofsted, apprentice professional, first leads, then is forced to drop out of the competition, only to find herself color announcer on the event. Murder naturally ensues and Lee finds herself in the middle of it without knowing why.
This novel by Charlotte Elkins is very interesting in how it mixes golf with a mystery. The book starts out with Lee Ofsted on her way to win an LPGA tournament when she injures her elbow/arm. Then a storm brews and the most-hated man in the town is "struck" by lightning. Lee tries to give him CPR but re-injures her arm giving him chest compressions. She later finds out that this was no accidental lightning strike and he was set up by someone and murdered on purpose by the lightning.
