is the ninth studio album by the English rock band Genesis. It was released in March 1978 by Charisma Records and is their first recorded as a trio of singer/drummer Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks, and bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford following the departure of guitarist Steve Hackett. The album marked a change in the band's sound, mixing elements of their progressive rock roots with shorter material, and Collins contributing to more of the group's songwriting.

I have never reviewed a book, but I felt I had to do it with this one. I had to force myself to finish this book. I wanted to stop reading it and forget about it.

Violet, a 14 year old, runs away from her mother in Chile and goes to New Orleans where her father is Police Chief. Nic, her father has no idea about her. When the mother, Megan, finally arrives, it's almost a brush off in punishment for the teenager. Teen not only runs away, but leaves the country and both mother and father do nothing? Megan and Violet's relationship is almost not one of mother-daughter but of friends. Where Megan doesn't make a decision without Violet. Violet is feriously independent because Megan lived a very sheltered life where her parents made all the decisions for her. Violet is happy to have found her father but the way she talks to him is uncalled for. She just expects him to bendover backward and heed to what she demands like her and her mother's relationship.

When Violet first arrives in New Orleans, she trails her father down the streets and is eventually picked up by a cop in a Tattoo Parlor where Violet got her nosed pierced. While inside the Parlor she whitnesses a bride/payoff taking place that involves a judge. When a case involves a judge, you'd think it would be a priority and there would be more about it in the book, but it's not. Nic can not find one of the key players from the parlor incident, and it ends up being Violet that cons her mother into going to a school, under the pretense that she is looking at it to decide which school to pick, and when she finds out the boys name, she calls her father to come and pick him up. And they do nothing to the girl. The mother has a 'reasonable' conversation and that is that.

the chapter endings to the new chapters are choppy and most don't continue from the last chapter but move onto something entirely different and you don't feel any closure from what happened in the prior chapter. there should have been more written. The ending of the book was rushed. once they picked up the kid from the parlor, the case ceased to the talked about and Nic and Megan sit and talk. But they never talk about any of their problems. Just mention that they'll have to learn to trust each other again, down the road. Megan never goes into her actions that made her pick up and leave when she found out she was pregnant. Why she didn't decide to tell Nic. Nic never vents his anger at finding out about Violet 14 years later and his feelings about Megan after she left him. There were major things in this story left out that should have been put it.

Read the last page and I couldn't believe it was going to end there. Nic and Megan never even said, 'I love you' to each other. I will think twice before reading another book by this author and I know there were be more with this family as Nic has 5 brothers and 1 sister and brother Anthony already has a book out.

This was a good read but as other stated it sort of fizzled a bit in the end. You can she the happy ending possibly around the corner but it seemed to end just before you got there. Maybe the point is life doesn't always have a neat "ending" but frankly I want my fiction to have one. I think an epilogue would have gone a long way to provide closure.
