This is a wonderful story for children. I love the setting: Uncle Storyteller arrives and children pour out of their houses to hear his latest tale. He tells the romantic story of a lovesick prince who longs to meet the princess of his dreams who lives on the moon. As the legend unfolds, readers (and the children of the village) learn how the Dolomite mountains came to be so shiny and bright. This is a precious story, well-told and beautifully illustrated, as usual, by Tomie DePaola.

Like all of Tomie De Paola's books, _Prince of the Dolomites_ is a nice mix of fable, foreign culture, and a gently-applied lesson or two. Very entertaining storyline, based on a traditional Italian fable, and nice illustrations throughout. Worth seeking a used copy or checking out from your local library.
