Gold as Heart
Great Alice Hoffman novel written with just the right amount of magic and wonder to keep me turning the pages.

I loved this book. It will stay with me for a long time. Like all of her books it was beautifully written.
Malojurus
A typical Alice Hoffman story full of metaphor and mystery. Hoffman is so very good at describing people in an unusual way, and this is one of her best books.
Armin
Unexpected story with twists and turns. A good read, especially if you enjoy Hoffmans writing style. D.M.
Kearanny
Incredible author that she is, does it again! Fascinating tale, that is somehow made believable with many twists and turns.
Bad Sunny
Like the greatest American novelists (Hawthorne, Melville, Twain, even Poe), Alice Hoffman always deals with the greatest questions in human life--questions that are cosmic or theological.
In this book, she deals with Nature vs. Civilization--and which is more "human."
She revives the old myth of the man raised by wolves, who is then reintroduced to civilization.
Her commentary on the self-absorption and falsity of civilization is wry and frank; her views of the attractions of nature are brutal and hypnotic.
A classic novel.

Alice Hoffman never fails to impress me with her use of language and well crafted characters.

I had mixed feelings about this book at first, having read such positive and negative reviews, but gave it a try because I find Hoffman usually doesn't produce shoddy work. I was not disappointed.

Her ability to weave a story never ceases to amaze me. She takes the unbelievable and brings us right there, beside the main characters, to experience their world. This book is a fascinating look into the human psyche, what drives us and makes us behave as we do.

If you are a Hoffman fan, I'm sure you will love this one as well. If you have never experienced her lyrical way with words, give this a try. I think you will at least give it four stars when you are done.
Up there on my favorite author list is Alice Hoffman and this is my favorite book. As with all her stories, they are quirky, but believeable and her command of language and description suberb.
