Having Viking ancestors himself, GILES KRISTIAN believes that the story of Raven has always been in his blood - waiting, like the Norsemen, for the right time to burst upon the world. Inspired by both his family history and his storytelling heroes, Bernard Cornwell and Conn Iggulden, Giles began writing a thrilling tale of an English boy's coming of age amongst a band of marauding warriors from across the grey sea.

I look forward to the third book and the next adventure in this compelling series.

What an interesting character, weaved so carefully and thoughtfully by the author. I look forward to the third book and the next adventure in this compelling series.

This was another good read by Kristian, yet seemed to borrow a number of plot lines from the Ragnar Lothbrok Viking saga. Spoilers ahead... another book attributed the first Norse raid on England to Sigurd and his crew, while this one had the French block the river with a chain between two castles, Sigurd agreeing to being baptized, and other adventures associated with Ragnar. They worked out differently for Sigurd in the book than for Ragnar, which kept it interesting.

I am a fan of Bernard Cornwell and have read all his Pagan series as well as Archer series etc. I tried Giles Kristan and was pleasantly pleased. He is good ! This is the second book of the series, Blood Eye being the first. Obviously if Blood Eye wasn't good I wouldn't have bought Sons of Thunder.

I enjoy Giles Kristian's books. I know he admires Bernard Cornwell and writes what he does because of that admiration and his interest. Bernard Cornwell is difficult to best. His writing makes you feel as though you are one of the men in the shield wall, but Giles Kristian is a good second. I thoroughly enjoy his stories.

Kristian has a solid understanding of Norse traditions and mythology, and makes it all come to life here as the final remnants of the Norse traditions slam head long into Christian evangelism and prejudice. A fun, action filled, romp, especially if you enjoy the Norse myths as well as the Christian myths.

Once again the Raven and his Fellowship squeeze life out of the seats of their pants and live to row another day to fill their journey chests. I can’t wait to read the next book of the saga!

Giles truly is a fine storyteller. Like Raven 1, his story flows. It develops and is strong . His characters are exciting and appropriate. I said it for book 1 and I mean it. An author I truly place on the same level as Bernard Cornwell. They are unsurpassable.

I put Giles just one below Stephen Pressfield and Bernard Cornwell just because he tells a story in a single linear flow. That said, his characters are very well developed with outstanding dialog and purpose. I highly recommend this book for anyone that likes books from the aforementioned authors.
Just one of the few books that was so hard to put down, What a wonderful trilogy. Now I have a new author to join David Gemmell, Ben Kane, Sam Barone, Anthony Riches, Harry Sidebottom, and many more. Story is excellent and keeps the midnight oil burning. Thanks Giles for developing Raven, (Blood Eye) taylujay Thursday, 02/04/2016
