Death Valley in ’49 book. . occasionally riveting.

Death Valley In'49 by William Lewis Manley is a good almost great book about the ultra harsh passage and trying to survive the hellish Death Valley by wagon train, then only oxen and walking in 1849. The group of pioneers and their families including small children take the wrong "southern trail" rather than the north trail and have to fight their way across the hellish Death Valley. many of the train people die from thirst and starvation. This was the "good time' of the year and if the passage was tried in late Spring or Summer everyone would of died.
