Let us not speak of such fanciful things.

The Thieves' Labyrinth book. I have enjoyed each of James McCreet's previous books and the Thieves' Labyrinth carried on an excellent formula. The various characters are colourful, entertaining and interesting. The rats, cats, lumpers, tidewaiters, magdalenes, toshers and mudlarks all provide an enticing vision of life in a different time and place. My favourite I really got absorbed into this book.

The Thieves’ Labyrinth is the third book in a series of four Victorian detective novels by author James McCreet, published in May 2011. It continues the adventures of a set of characters established in the first book, The Incendiary’s Trail, namely: George Williamson, Albert Newsome, Noah Dyson, Benjamin and John Cullen.

He had seen enough evil to know that Man’s sin was eternal and never to be cleansed – not even if an ocean of salvation were to wash through the metropolis. pture remained with him, flickering unbidden across his thoughts when stirred by some circumstance or other. One such line now seemed particularly insistent: And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. In those first moments of realization that he was abandoned, he had fought to remain composed. There was no immediate danger.

The Thieves' Labyrinth. A death on Waterloo bridge, a body in the river near Wapping, a lady robbed on Wych Street - all common enough daily incidents in early Victorian London. But when an outrageous theft is committed at the port, the clues from these seemingly unconnected crimes soon point irresistibly to a mystery deeper and murkier than the Thames itself.

The third dazzling Victorian entertainment in McCreet's extraordinary crime series

I read the first two in this series and was hooked but this book is well written and the characters are more formed, possibly due to building on the former books. This one flows and pulls you into the heart of London and the time when the Police of the Met were forming. Great book.

Third in the series, I liked this story. Williamson, Dyson, Ben, Cullen and Newsome are back, and this time with competition!

Tons of action, a mysterious puzzle which is more than it seems, and once again an introduction to a part of the dark Victorian underworld that only the toughest survive.

Very enjoyable. Waiting for more.
