Heddy, Martha Rae, Betty, Louise and June go about the funeral business like not others! Their small town funeral home has been a corner stone of the community for over 100 years. They approach the business with loving care for each client, but often enjoy the surprises of life and their work with joy and occasionally, raucous laughter. Now, however, Hunt and Larking Funeral Home, like themselves, is growing weary. The prep room door won't open, the wallpaper is fading, and the long line of maple trees out front seem to be losing their leaves for the last time. These ladies hold the heart strings to all in the community and now face their final triumph as a corporate funeral home chain seeks to buy out the little group of women known as The Funeral Club.

I stumbled on this book and ordered it because it looked like it might be a cute, funny read--thought it was a memoir not a novel but that's my fault. I now notice that of the 7 5-star reviews, one is from the author, and the other 6 by the same contributor--"A Customer", leading me to believe that all the reviews are nothing but self-promotion.

Great comedy about small towns and those who live in them.
These five women discover the secrets of the town and then
fight off a giant corporation wanting to bury them. The things these ladies do in the Carribean..is well....and what they discover in the day-to-day work in their business?!
This is easily read in a weekend. You will be laughing,
crying, and cheering on the ladies from Hunt & Larkin Funeral Home!

The Funeral Club is a well written work of art. The author combines small town humor and the internal dialogues of a funeral home staff to keep the reader from putting the book down until the end. Thumbs up from this reader! Can't wait to read the next one - Summer at Hope's Croft

For reader information, the novel 'The Funeral Club' was recently written as a stage play and produced in Georgia by Habersham Theatre and also enjoyed a run at the exclusive 14th Street Playhouse in downtown Atlanta. 'The Funeral Club' is a quaint, warm and funny story about a group of five senior-aged women who battle a Wal-Mart-like mentality in order to save their small business and cozy Southern community. The book recants the same story heard all over the United States --in reality--concerning the death of many small towns and their businesses at the hands of corporate America! Enjoyable read and now, theatre production. --The Author
