The Golden Man The Quest For El Dorado. I knew I was going to like this book after the first 20 pages. It's a really well written and very entertaining story of the Spanish obsession with finding gold in south america in the 1500's. And what an obsession! The lack of respect for human life shown by the Spanish "explorers" is shocking. Nothing would stop them from finding "el dorado" except maybe death (so many wasted lives) or beheading(Sir Walter Raleigh). The book is broken down into sections that detail the lives of particular individuals and their quest for the golden city that everyone was talking.
