While the author may have been a good story teller, those skills did not translate well into written word. I was hoping for a good telling of a member of my husbands family but was faced with unnecessary details, not enough details, and sudden changes in the story line without any type of transition. It is well researched and I would have loved and enjoyed hearing the stories told by the author, I just wish someone else had done the actual writing.

I just recently heard about this book. Sheriff Pope was my great-grandfather's brother. His story makes this period of history come alive. Dale Weston has done a remarkable job of telling a very exciting story. Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch add excitement to an already great life. John T. Pope is a real hero and a good man. It is a wonderful read.

I had my brother-in-law read this book and asked if it was as he remembered hearing the stories as a youngster. He said that it followed what he had heard pretty closly--a little embelishment here and there but that is OK. It didn't change the facts. This great-grand uncle of my husband's family was really a remarkable character of the old west.

It was interesting read, very sad to me on how the sheriff treated the outlaws, didn't really care about their families that they had back home, when he took their personal belongings, it was okay not a real favorite

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it. I love history and nonfiction and this filled the bill on both counts.

This was GREAT. John T. Pope is a family member so this was very enjoyable for us to have in our collection
I liked this book. Great. Especially since I had just moved from this place before I read it.
But it is the most, best, true story I have read in 50 years.
Get it.
